Overview

VHB’s growing Watertown, MA office is seeking a highly-qualified part-time Construction Inspector to work on a variety of roadway, bridge and other transportation based construction projects.

 

VHB’s passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, designers and inspectors who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments.

 

Together, we work to improve the design of the built environment, improve mobility, enhance communities and economic vitality, and balance development and infrastructure needs with environmental stewardship.

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitor construction to provide assurance that the project is being constructed in accordance with approved plans and specifications
  • Act as the primary Liaison between Project Managers, Clients, Contractors, Subcontractors and the general public on construction projects.
  • Review Shop drawings to document conformance with the contract documents.
  • Review of pay requisitions from contractors
  • Review of material tests results and reports
  • Document construction activities in daily electronic reports
  • Coordinate with the Design Engineers to address Contractors questions
  • Prepare project punch lists and review as-built plans to document completion of work

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to grow professionally
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems
  • Ability to work well in team-oriented structure
  • MS Office Suite skills

 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of construction inspection experience and/or design and inspection experience
  • Knowledge of MassDOT Highway Construction Specifications
  • Demonstrated record of success working on public and private sector projects
  • Valid driver’s license; frequent use of candidate’s own vehicle required
