About the Position

VHB is seeking a dynamic and talented Traffic Safety Analyst to join our Safety Team in our Raleigh, North Carolina office. The position is open to remote workers outside the Raleigh area.  As a member of the Safety Team, the selected candidate will support our clients’ efforts to save lives and prevent injuries from motor vehicle crashes.

Business development

This person will help VHB obtain task orders under existing NHTSA contracts and expand our client base among state highway safety offices with consulting on traffic safety data management and behavioral safety programs. The individual will work with the VHB team to develop opportunities to consult with state safety programs, particularly in data but expanding into other program areas as well. This will involve attendance at major conferences, monitoring project opportunities, contacting State program managers and highway safety office leaders, and mentoring more junior employees. The candidate will also work with the other members of the team to develop proposals in response to task order project Requests-For-Proposals (TOPRs) under the NHTSA Traffic Records Program support contract. This will involve researching specific TOPR-related topics, preparing portions of the technical proposal, and developing responses to specific TOPR requirements.

  • Proficiency in at least some of the following systems:  R, Visio, SAS, PowerBI, Tableau, Word, Excel, Access, database management, GIS, or similar.

 

Qualifications

  • 0-5 years of transportation research experience preferably related to safety.
  • Ability to understand data systems’ documentation, functionality, and uses.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the NHTSA Traffic Records Program Assessment Advisory and related assessment processes.
  • Familiarity with the NHTSA Model Minimum Uniform Crash Criteria.
  • Familiarity with Traffic Records Coordinating Committees.
  • Familiarity with traffic records data and appropriate data management and analysis methods.
  • Ability to certify at Roadway Safety Practitioner Level 1 (RSP1). Prior certification a plus, but not required.
