About the Position

VHB’s expanding Geomatics team is seeking an experienced Crew Chief to join our growing Geomatics/Survey team in Orlando, FL.


In this role, you will be leading a Survey/Geomatic field crew under the direction of the Orlando Senior Geomatics Manager.  You will be an integral part of VHB’s 100+ Geomatic professionals across the footprint involved in planning, developing, managing, and conducting spatial data management activities related to surveying, boundary law, mapping, cartography, construction, and spatial information systems, land development, and commerce.



  • Direct the activities of a survey crew in the performance of Boundary/ALTA surveys, Topographic surveys, Construction and post-construction surveys, transportation surveys, and platting
  • Maintain proper care of survey equipment
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
  • Maintain documentation of all phases of survey work
  • Perform public records research
  • Use public records in the execution of survey fieldwork


  • 5+ years of geomatics/professional land surveying experience
  • 3 years of progressive geomatics/survey crew chief experience in leading and supervising field crews
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Excellent communication
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Successful track record of motivating and mentoring others
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of survey staff and clients
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Geomatics, Survey Engineering, or Engineering preferred (college degree can substitute for experience)
  • Thorough understanding of ALTA and boundary surveys
  • Experience with Leica survey equipment
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroStation, Inroads, and OpenRoads
