About the Position

VHB’s growing Raleigh, NC team is looking for a Senior Safety Engineer to join us in an on-call role to provide senior technical expertise. As a member of the Safety Team, the selected candidate will support our clients’ efforts to save lives and prevent injuries from motor vehicle crashes.

 

Responsibilities

  • Apply deep understanding of highway safety principles.
  • Develop safety models and forecasts using highway safety data and supporting data such as volume and socioeconomic data.
  • Mentor junior team members in highway safety principles and provide technical direction for provides.
  • Employ knowledge and experience in a variety of safety related topics, including Safety Data, Highway Safety Manual, Highway Safety Improvement Program/Strategic Highway Safety Plans, and Highway Safety Plans
  • Develop safety solutions which consider all users, including motorists, bicyclists, public transit users and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.

Skills and Attributes

  • Deep understanding of the application of statistics to highway safety
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
  • An understanding of effectively overseeing multi-disciplinary projects and teams
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently 

Qualifications

  • 20+ years of experience in highway safety
  • PHD Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
