About the Position

VHB is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our dynamic and growing Structures group in our Washington, DC or Tysons, VA offices. In this position, you would be involved in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of transit related structural projects.

Responsibilities 

  • Perform structural design and detailing of transit related and building structures
  • Participate in site visits to collect data necessary for preliminary design
  • Calculate quantities and develop construction cost estimate
  • Prepare contract documents and design plans

Skills & Abilities

  • Must possess strong technical skills in the design and detailing of steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete for transit and building structures
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and willing to take responsibility
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
  • 3+ years of professional structural engineering experience
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification expected, PE license preferred
  • Knowledge of local building codes and requirements
  • Previous experience working with WMATA, VRE, and DOT projects s strong plus
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software (STAAD, RAM Structural System, spColumn, spMat, Mathcad, etc.)
  • Revit (3D modelling) and AutoCAD experience a strong plus
