About the Position

VHB’s growing Wethersfield, CT office is seeking an entry-level Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Systems group. The selected candidate will work with an energetic and ambitious team of engineers on a variety of exciting public, private, and institutional projects.



  • Ability to think independently and manage time on tasks
  • Willing to learn and experience out of box engineering aspects of the job
  • Work under a mid-level engineer on a variety of projects and tasks
  • Work with a team of professionals in a variety of transportation-related areas to
  • Assist with traffic signal design tasks
  • Complete field data collection tasks
  • Assist in the preparation of various components of traffic impact, corridor, and intersection improvement studies
  • Assist with the research and preparation of reports 
  • Work with team on design concepts, roadway improvements

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Experience in transportation analysis software including Synchro, HCS a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Microstation preferred
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office
  • Motivated to learn and be mentored
  • Ability to think out of the box


  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • 0-2 years of civil/transportation engineering and planning experience, whether through coursework or professional experience (may include co-op/internship experience)
  • EIT certification preferred
