ABOUT THE POSITION

Structural Bridge Engineer | Orlando, FL | Tampa, FL | Hybrid

 

We are seeking an experienced Entry Level Structural Bridge Engineer to join our dynamic and growing team in Orlando, FL.

In this position, you would support the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects throughout Florida and other states in which VHB operates.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Perform structural design of highway and/or pedestrian bridges and ancillary structures
  • Assisting in the field with bridge inspections and the inspection of ancillary structures
  • Preparation of preliminary and final design documents for bridge-focused projects
  • Preparation of quantity calculations and cost estimate

Skills & Abilities

  • Must possess strong technical skills
  • Familiarity with bridge design, detailing, and load rating (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and collaborative
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic team environment that workshares across our entire footprint
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD preferred, FDOT experience a strong plus)
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Possess an understanding of completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software (FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, Mathcad, FDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.)
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation v8 and Connect experience is a strong plus
