ABOUT THE POSITION

Transportation/Traffic Engineer | Hybrid | Hauppauge, NY | New York, NY

 

VHB is seeking a Transportation/Traffic Engineer to join our vibrant and growing Hauppauge transportation consulting practice.

 

Responsibilities

  • Working within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation projects
  • Traffic impact studies
  • Traffic modeling
  • Development, analysis, and evaluation of traffic improvements
  • Roadway and intersection design
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda and reports
  • Actively participate in meetings to share ideas with clients, consultant partners, and other stakeholders
  • Prepare and deliver analysis findings, concerns, and recommendations in a collaborative environment
  • Project management or serve as a task leader on small to mid-size projects

Skills and Attributes

  • Self-motivated with excellent communications skills (written and oral)
  • Strong writing skills for proposals, technical reports, and memoranda
  • The ability to balance multiple concurrent assignments
  • The ability to train, mentor and lead staff on a wide range of project assignments
  • Excel in working in a team environment
  • Experience with HCS, Synchro, VISSIM
  • Experience with VBA, PYTHON, SQL, and databases a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation a plus
  • A strong background in traffic engineering, task management, and supervision of professional staff where applicable
  • Experience with major agencies in New York would be a plus
  • Experience in working on private sector projects (e.g. mixed-use developments) and coordination with reviewing agencies (local municipalities, counties, DOTs, etc.) would be a plus

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering required, master’s degree is a plus
  • 5-8 years of transportation/traffic engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Hauppauge, NY is $87,000 to $115,000 and in New York City is $92,000-120,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
