ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Transportation Design Engineer

 

Our team uses its skills and experience to improve our communities with a sustainable, context driven and integrated project delivery mindset. Our clients include municipalities, VDOT and other state agencies, and private partners who support the development of the places we live, work, recreate and learn.  Duties include highway design, drainage design, development of traffic management plans, cost estimating, right-of-way and layout plans. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Producing and delivering highway design projects from inception through the construction administration phase
  • Pre-design project planning and technical task management
  • Design of highways and roads, urban to rural, including development of geometric layout, grading and drainage, working with utilities, and environmental permitting
  • Managing the development of technical design and specification documents

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experienced user of Civil 3D, including corridor development
  • Capability to lead/mentor junior staff
  • Adept at technical task management and oversight
  • Aptitude for public presentations

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering, MS preferred
  • 8+ years of professional transportation engineering experience
  • Current PE in Virginia
  • Must have experience with VDOT and VDOT-funded municipal roadway improvement projects
  • Must have valid driver’s license, as the position requires travel to client meetings and project sites
