ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Traffic Engineer | South Burlington, VT | South Portland, ME | Bedford, NH | Hybrid

 

VHB’s South Burlington, VT office, consistently named one of the Best Places to Work by Vermont Business Magazine, is seeking a dynamic and talented Senior Traffic Engineer to support our Transportation Systems Team. The selected candidate will support our clients’ efforts to plan for and design new and improved transportation facilities that support all transportation modes and reduce crashes and injuries across Vermont.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and work with a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning, safety, and engineering solutions for multimodal transportation projects
  • Conduct traffic and safety engineering analysis, including design and operational focused analysis
  • Research and interpret transportation data, community statistics, and demographics
  • Perform roadway and intersection design
  • Prepare written planning documents, technical memoranda, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports 

Skills and Attributes

  • Understanding of transportation engineering roadway design principles  
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm to learn and ability to take responsibility
  • Familiarity with the following systems: Synchro/SimTraffic, AutoCAD or Microstation, Word, Excel, GIS
  • Familiarity with national and local transportation engineering standards, including AASHTO, MUTCD, and/or ITE guidance documents
  • Understanding of highway safety fundamentals
  • Preference for familiarity with Highway Safety Manual (HSM) and related tools and techniques

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of transportation and/or traffic engineering experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field of study
  • PE license expected, EIT required
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Microstation preferred
  • Experience with traffic analysis software (Synchro, HCS) preferred
