ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Landscape Architect/Project Manager – Watertown, MA

 

Responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising landscape design activities. Exercises independent judgment analyzing all technical aspects of the project, defining the scope, selecting problems for investigation, developing concepts and approaches, and recommending landscape architectural design solutions.

 

Leads a team and is responsible for the development of aesthetically pleasing and functional site designs from concept to construction for a variety of private and public landscape architectural projects (e.g., retail, single- and multi-family residential, corporate campuses, mixed use developments, academic buildings, streetscapes, parks, plazas, public spaces).

 

You will be a recognized leader and authority in the field of landscape architecture.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages, plans, develops, organizes, and implements project design concepts and criteria throughout all phases of project work, from planning, design development, and construction documentation to construction administration.
  • You will collaborate with regional Planning and Design Service Leaders to develop and implement a strategic vision for the Landscape Design Practice. Identifies and implements strategic initiatives that contribute to the annual business cycle.
  • Works with team leaders to provide oversight, direction, management, mentoring, and ongoing communication to work team.
  • May supervise, plan, schedule, and coordinate the work of junior team members.
  • Works with the regional Planning and Design leadership team to recruit, support and develop talent, fostering a progressive and collaborative professional environment.
  • Establishes and monitors budgets to assess profitability. Monitors projects for technical accuracy and adherence to schedule.
  • Research problem areas of significant scope and complexity. Applies extensive knowledge to develop solutions. Is accountable for the resolution of challenging technical problems that substantially affect major projects.
  • Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have important impact on total architectural design activities.
  • Identifies and implements innovative and creative approaches to landscape architectural design assignments, working with VHB resources to incorporate new technologies, information, communication, and product delivery.
  • Oversees project scoping studies and alternatives analysis.
  • Performs project reviews and quality control audits to measure the quality of project deliverables, investigates any quality problems and modifies project plans as needed.
  • Acts as liaison to individuals within and outside VHB with responsibility to act independently regarding project decisions.
  • Represents VHB at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and discuss design issues.
  • Responsible for client relationships, visibility, and business development. Participates in proposal preparation

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years required, 12+ years preferred of landscape architecture experience with demonstrated professional growth of increased project responsibilities from design through construction
  • BLA; MLA preferred
  • Landscape Architect registration/license LEED Certification
