ABOUT THE POSITION

Transportation/Traffic Engineer - Design | New York, NY

 

VHB is seeking a Mid-Level Transportation/Traffic Engineer with approximately 5-8 years of design experience to join our vibrant and growing transportation consulting practice in our New York City office.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, analyze and evaluate traffic improvements including traffic signals
  • Design traffic control devices
  • Design work zone traffic control
  • Develop roadway and intersection design
  • Use guidance within the MUTCD to prepare and oversee traffic signal warrant analyses
  • Attend and lead meetings with transportation agencies and private developers
  • Prepare and participate in presentations to the client team
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda and reports
  • Project management or serve as a task leader on small to mid-size projects

Skills & Abilities:

  • A strong background in traffic engineering, task management, and supervision of professional staff where applicable
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing skills for proposals, technical reports and memoranda
  • The ability to balance multiple concurrent assignments
  • The ability to train, mentor and lead staff on a wide range of project assignments
  • MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Open Roads and/or Civil3D
  • Final Design Plan Development

Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of transportation/traffic design engineering experience required, depending on level of education
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required (master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of New York or New Jersey expected (or the ability to obtain registration within six months)
  • Experience with major agencies in New York state including NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCEDC, NYCT, PANYNJ, MTA-Bridges and Tunnels is preferred

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $92,000-120,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
