Civil Engineer – Renewable Energy | VHB - Vermont and Albany New York offices

VHB is looking to provide the opportunity for a Civil Engineer to work within our growing Renewable Energy Market practice with a focus on all phases of renewables development, including solar, EV charging, and battery storage facilities. This position provides an excellent career growth opportunity working with other emerging professionals within a vibrant and expanding professional environment and entails mostly office-related work associated with completion, management, and coordination with a variety of VHB services related to project development.  The position is based in South Burlington, Vermont or Albany, New York areas depending on the selected candidate. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will assist our Energy Team members located in other offices both in the New England Region and perhaps across the VHB footprint.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work within an integrated team of civil, water resource, and electrical engineers, ecologists, regulatory specialists, surveyors, transportation designers, project managers, attorneys, and landscape architects in developing site civil plans and specifications for a multitude of renewable energy infrastructure projects with a focus on sustainability and resiliency
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to understand their objectives and discuss design/permitting issues
  • Represent VHB at technical symposia, conferences, recruiting, and trade group learning and visibility events
  • Manage tasks related to project site civil and construction aspects
  • Preparation of design plans from schematic design through construction documents
  • Assist in the preparation of siting and other site civil-related permitting materials
  • Technical and design Report writing
  • Construction and operational stormwater management designs
  • Project construction technical support

Skills & Abilities

  • Self-motivated with ability to think critically and creatively
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to complete plans and provide peer reviews of plans created by others and provide feedback in a constructive and mentoring approach
  • Experience with Vermont or New York local and state permitting requirements and precedence’s for renewable or utility energy projects
  • Collaborate with designers and CADD technicians in the development of drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes, and client specific project specifications and requirements
  • Ability to manage task and deliverable assignments and time commitments within a fast-paced team of highly motivated and skilled practitioners with a focus on producing VHB-quality products.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional site/civil engineering experience, including consulting/private sector experience
  • 5-8 years of professional site/civil engineering experience, including consulting/private sector experience preferred
  • EIT or PE highly preferred
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience required
  • GIS, HydroCAD, and StormCAD experience a plus
  • Experience preparing graphics and maps
  • Experience using energy-specific siting/performance tools, such as PVSyst/PVCase/HelioScope, etc. is also a plus

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York is $80,000-90,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
