ABOUT THE POSITION

Structural Bridge Engineer | Orlando, FL | Tampa, FL | Hybrid

 

VHB is in search of a Structural Bridge Engineer to join the established and growing Structures group in our FL offices. Joining our team means becoming a part of a dynamic, innovative, and forward-thinking environment where we lead the industry with cutting-edge model-based bridge design.

In this position, you would play an integral role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects - from highway to pedestrian to rail. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural modeling and design for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, estimates, and calculation packages
  • Provide technical support to structural engineering staff
  • Provide project management support
  • Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong technical skills in bridge/structural design
  • Experience developing design reports, plans, and construction cost estimates
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and commitment to learning
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking
  • Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment  
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenBridge experience is a strong plus

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of civil or structural engineering experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
  • Engineer in Training certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of professional structural/bridge design experience
  • PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred
  • Familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software is a strong plus (i.e. Mathcad, FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.)
  • Model-based design experience is a strong plus:
    • Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads
    • AutoCADD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor
