Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a Noise and Air Quality Intern to join our Air Quality & Noise team in the New York City office for the fall of 2024. VHB is a multi-faceted team of engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments. VHB provides air quality, noise, and vibration services for a wide range of projects across these markets throughout the planning, engineering and construction phases. With this role, you will have the opportunity to apply your technical education to these projects, collect data in the field, use models to predict project conditions, prepare reports and support public outreach efforts to communicate study findings. A strong interest in learning and practicing noise and air quality is required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support analysis of noise and vibration using models such as FHWA Traffic Noise Model, FHWA Roadway Construction Noise Model, FTA/FRA Noise and Vibration Guidance modeling, FAA Aviation Environmental Design Tool, and Cadna-A sound model
  • Analyze air quality using EPA MOVES, CAL3QHC, AERSCREEN andAERMOD
  • Utilize a wide range of technical tools such as GIS, CAD, Matlab and spreadsheets
  • Support in field data collection
  • Support the development of noise impact assessments
  • Support in the preparation technical reports to document analysis findings

Desired Skills:

  • Technical capabilities in engineering, math, and science
  • Technical skills in computer modeling
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with attention to details and ability to think critically
  • Willingness to travel
  • Previous education or experience with noise and/or vibration preferred

Qualifications:

  • Working towards a B.S. degree in acoustics, engineering, transportation, math, physics, environmental science, or related field preferred
  • Must have a strong interest in learning and practicing Noise and Air Quality consulting

Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19/hr - $28/hr. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
