ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB Technology Enablement team is looking for a GIS Analyst. This individual produces maps and configures web and mobile applications that express the results of analytical processes using Geographic Information System (GIS) software. The role involves designing and implementing spatial databases and helping software engineers understand spatial data processes in support of creating and maintaining end-user applications.
Position may sit in any of our VHB offices (our list of office locations can be found here). We have a hybrid environment with a mixture of in office and remote days.
The base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $76,000 for Albany, NY
The base salary range for this position is $62,000 - $78,000 for Washington D.C
The base salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 for New York City
This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location. In addition, VHB offers a holistic benefits package which can be found here.
Responsibilities
- Performs moderately complex analysis of spatial data using GIS technology (e.g., buffering, spatial overlays, distance calculations).
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots GIS software across the entire GIS software stack.
- Researches and corrects moderately complex problems with data using spatial and logical analyses.
- Performs data searches and retrievals on moderately complex projects.
- Extracts and organizes data on moderately complex projects.
- Researches source documents to resolve missing or conflicting data on moderately complex projects.
- Converts GIS data to and from CAD software format on moderately complex projects.
- Uses coordinate geometry to convert surveying data to GIS format on moderately complex projects.
- Task manages aspects of moderately complex GIS projects or independently manages simple GIS projects.
- Creates and manages online tools using spatial data on moderately complex projects.
- Serves as a database administrator for spatial data on moderately complex projects.
- Reviews work products of other technical colleagues.
- May provide guidance to less experienced GIS team members.
- Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
- Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.
Skills & Knowledge
- Working knowledge of the principles of geographic information science and GIS technology.
- Intermediary skill in the use of GIS software, particularly the Esri ArcGIS platform.
- Ability to develop and maintain online spatial data tools for non-GIS users.
- Intermediate skill in applying GIS technology to solve difficult analytical problems.
- Working knowledge of relational database management systems and the ability to use the SQL language.
- Knowledge of the use and application of Global Positioning System technology and moderate skills in the use of GPS technology for data collection.
- Ability to understand and employ LiDAR data on moderately complex projects.
- Ability to understand and automate repeated tasks using Python on moderately complex projects.
- Ability to use data transformation software to import and export data for use by the engineering team on moderately complex projects.
- Ability to express meaning through cartography.
- Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
- Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in the use of GIS technology
- BS in GIS, Engineering, Planning, or Geography (a master’s degree can be substituted for 2 years of experience)
