Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking an entry level Noise Specialist to join our Air Quality & Noise team. This role can be based out of our offices in Watertown, Boston, or Worcester, MA.

 

We are looking for talented and enthusiastic individuals who are set to graduate in May or June 2025 to join our dynamic team.

 

VHB provides air quality, noise, and vibration services for a wide range of projects across these markets throughout the planning, engineering and construction phases. With this role, you will have the opportunity to apply your technical education to analyze these projects, collect data in the field, use models to predict project conditions, prepare reports and support public outreach efforts to communicate study findings. A strong interest in learning and practicing noise is required. This candidate may also have the opportunity to support air analyses on these projects as well.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support analysis of noise and vibration using models such as FHWA Traffic Noise Model, FHWA Roadway Construction Noise Model, FTA/FRA Noise and Vibration Guidance modeling, FAA Aviation Environmental Design Tool, and Cadna-A sound model
  • Utilize a wide range of technical tools such as GIS, CAD, Matlab and spreadsheets
  • Conduct field measurements
  • Prepare impact assessments in support of a wide range of clients including highway departments, rail transit agencies, airports, state environmental agencies, cities and towns, and private development companies
  • Preparation technical reports to document analysis findings

Desired Skills:

  • Technical capabilities in engineering, math, and science
  • Technical skills in computer modeling
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with attention to details and ability to think critically
  • Willingness to travel
  • Previous education or experience with noise and/or vibration preferred

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in acoustics, engineering, transportation, math, physics, environmental science, or related field preferred
  • 0-1 years of experience
  • Must have a strong interest in learning and practicing noise and vibration consulting
