Responsibilities

  • Preliminary and final design document preparation for bridge-focused transportation projects
  • Project management/task management
  • Staff mentoring/development/technical oversight
  • Some business development activities may be expected

Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess strong technical skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing is essential
  • Detail oriented and quality focused
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Motivated to lead and mentor a structural engineering team

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of civil or structural engineering experience with Load and Resistance Factor Design
  • BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred) (1-2 years of experience can be substituted for a master’s degree)
  • Licensed North Carolina PE required or ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire date
  • Progressively responsible experience in structural bridge design, construction phasing, and complex bridge projects with North Carolina experience preferred
  • Experience completing transportation studies, design reports, final design documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO & DOT
  • Independent experience developing bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete), and seismic analysis
  • Knowledge of structural engineering software (AASHTOWare, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, Mathcad)
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation v8, Open Bridge Designer and Connect experience is a strong plus
  • Supervisory or team lead experience is preferred
