ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Software Engineer to join our dynamic team focused on Transportation Safety. In this critical role, you will be at the forefront of creating solutions to analyze crash data with the goal of improving the safety and efficiency of our transportation systems. Your work will directly contribute to creating safer roads and reducing accident-related injuries and fatalities.

 

As a Software Engineer specializing in Transportation Safety Analysis, you will develop cutting-edge software solutions to gather, process, and analyze vast amounts of crash data from multiple sources. You will collaborate with transportation experts, data scientists, and other engineering professionals to identify risk factors, propose safety measures, and influence policy changes that will make a tangible impact on our communities.

This hybrid position could be located from Raleigh NC or Orlando FL, but preference will be given to those who will work from our Orlando, FL office

Hybrid Schedule: 3 Days in the Office, 2 Days Remote from Primary Residence

 

Responsibilities

  • Plans, conducts, and develops solutions to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Contributes to the building and integration of software applications.
  • Analyzes, designs, develops, modifies, writes, edits, and implements complex software applications.
  • Analyzes and defines software requirements to determine specifications and standards.
  • Proposes and implements standard software solutions.
  • Develops, designs, and edits original applications, or modifies third-party applications.
  • Documents procedures that were followed to develop an application or component of an application.
  • Serves as a technical leader for moderately complex software projects.
  • Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Extensive experience and knowledge of development environments, frameworks, and languages, including the following:
    • Angular
    • C# and .Net Core with Entity Framework
    • Azure DevOps and Jira
    • SQL Server Management Studio
    • Experience with Agile Development practices
    • Git
    • GIS experience with Esri JavaScript and/or REST APIs is a requirement
  • Significant experience with relational database management systems, including MS SQL Server.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
  • Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of software engineering experience in the transportation Industry
  • Domain knowledge of ESRI's product platform (Desktop, Pro, ArcPy, ArcGIS Enterprise, AGOL, Portal, ESRI Javascript API, WebApp Builder, etc.)
  • Experience in Python and SQL
  • Knowledge of GIS/geospatial workflows (geostatistical analysis, geoprocessing, geocoding)
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, GIS, Geography or equivalent discipline
