Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking an Intelligent Transportation Systems/ITS Project Engineer to join our Transportation Systems Group. Project work will focus on the planning, systems engineering documentation, design and construction support of ITS infrastructure including power and communications systems. 

 

We are open to applicants that can work out of one of our Regional VHB offices in the Mid Atlantic. VHB is embracing a Hybrid Work model where employees are provided the flexibility to work where their productivity and creativity flourishes, splitting time between an office and off-site work.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of traffic signal and ITS/ATMS plans
  • Develop specifications and estimates for construction
  • Develop electrical one line diagrams and perform electrical calculations (ie voltage drop calculations, arc flash and short circuit calculations)
  • Prepare Power Design Analysis Reports for ITS system designs
  • Preparation of communication diagrams and splicing plans
  • Development of Concept of Operations (ConOps), Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP) and Requirements Traceability Verification Matrix (RTVM)
  • Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities
  • Interact with clients for coordination purposes
  • Assist in marketing efforts
  • Management of staff for completion of project tasks

Skills and Attributes

  • Working knowledge of data analysis tools such as Excel
  • Working knowledge of design software, such as ORD, MicroStation and AutoCAD
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
  • The ability to work on multiple projects and work independently

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering required, with focus on Transportation preferred (a master’s may be substituted for 2 years of experience)
  • 5-8 years of Intelligent Transportation Systems engineering experience required
  • Prior experience working with DOT is beneficial
  • Experience in preparing systems engineering documentation in accordance with 23 U.S.C. Section 940 (Rule 940)
  • P.E. License required

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 - 125,000 for the Washington, DC location. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
