ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Bedford, NH office is looking for an Environmental Intern to join our team for the Summer of 2025.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with numerous VHB staff to advance projects in a timely manner;
- Provide permit compliance monitoring including weekly progress reports for utility projects after internal training provided;
- Assist mobile data collection as part of wetland delineation fieldwork;
- Assist with threatened and endangered species surveys;
- Assist with plant identification and vegetation inventory;
- Assist with water quality monitoring fieldwork and data processing;
- Perform GPS collection using mobile technology, and perform data management;
- Perform analysis using GIS and geodatabases, and develop basic maps and figures;
- Perform data entry, research, and analysis;
- Assist with writing and technical reporting; and
- Assist with environmental permitting support.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science or a natural science related field (e.g., Biology, Fisheries and Wildlife, Ecology, Natural Resources);
- Willing to frequently work outdoors, both in remote locations and on construction sites, with variable terrain and weather conditions;
- Valid driver's license;
- Experience with identifying and characterizing regional plant species, soil profiles, wildlife, habitats, and/or ecological communities preferred
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with teammates;
- Self-motivated with attention to detail;
- Good time management skills;
- Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment and a capability to prioritize tasks; and
- A working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Adobe PDF, and similar programs.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate may also:
- Have relevant environmental coursework or field work experience related to the natural sciences;
- Experience in developing and managing documentation and data analysis;
- Experience utilizing ArcGIS and related mobile data collection applications; and
- Ability to read and comprehend project engineering drawings and documentation.
