ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Raleigh, NC office is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Transportation team.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural design and modeling of highway and/or railroad bridges, transit and rail stations, and ancillary structures,
- Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packages
- Provide technical support/mentorship to structural engineering staff
- Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.
- Perform field inspections as necessary for development of bridge rehabilitation plans and specifications

- Experience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staff
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
- 5-8 years of professional bridge design experience
- Licensed PE required
- Possess an understanding of completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures
- Strong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software (i.e. Mathcad, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, LEAP Steel and/or Concrete, etc.)
- Model-based design experience is a strong plus:
- Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads
Preferred Qualifications
- 8-11 years of structural bridge design experience
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structures (1-2 years of experience can be substituted for a Master’s degree)
