Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Financial Assistant to join our Connecticut Finance team. In this role, you will provide crucial support in managing financial aspects of engineering projects. This position is hybrid out of our Wethersfield, CT office.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of contracts/amendments
  • Handles routine accounts payable duties
  • Processes and prepares routine, standard accounting/finance records and forms
  • Sets up and maintains accounting/finance records, files, and correspondence
  • Compiles and reviews invoices, checks, and other accounting/financial data
  • Performs reconciliations, transfers, or balancing operations involving accounting/financial information
  • Acknowledges correspondence and responds to staff inquiries involving accounting/financial processing questions of a routine nature
  • Develops working knowledge of accounting/finance concepts, systems, and procedures
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and company policies and procedures
  • Other clerical tasks as assigned

 Skills and Attributes

  • Basic understanding and knowledge of accounting/finance
  • Familiarity using Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Requires ability to work in a busy office environment with significant computer use
  • Ability to learn and use accounting/financial computer applications (i.e. Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines
  • Self-motivated & detail-oriented
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively & positively with coworkers
  • Ability to accurately enter data into system and perform simple to moderately complex mathematical calculations

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 1-2 years of related accounting, finance or business operation experience
