Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial, and experienced Transportation Service Leader for the Northeast (NY/NJ). In collaboration with the Regional Manager, Managing Directors of each office (Long Island, NYC, Albany, and New Jersey), and fellow Service and Market Leaders, the Northeast Transportation Service Leader will oversee our regional transportation service (100+ employees) to advance healthy and safe practices and culture; strengthen and expand regional service line offerings; attract, develop, and engage talented people; foster communication, connection, and collaboration of regional team members; advance the use of technology and foster innovation on service line projects; and promote technical excellence and ensure QA/QC.

 

This hire will oversee transportation projects, including conceptual, preliminary, and final engineering design. The ideal candidate will manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers in the development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of transportation infrastructure projects. In the Service Leader role, the candidate will touch all of our markets, Real Estate, Institutional, State & Local, Energy, and Transportation, including infrastructure services such as civil, site, utilities, drainage, land development, structures, aviation, traffic, transit/rail, landscape architecture, SI&R/Environmental, and survey. This hire will be part of the Northeast Regional Leadership Team and be part of decision making to drive strategic growth across the region and beyond.

 

Responsibilities

  • Leads, develops, and/or supports initiatives in support of and in response to VHB’s Strategic Plan and regional strategic goals
  • Evaluates service offerings to ensure alignment with client needs and industry trends within regional footprint
  • Implements recruiting, retention, and training strategies and skills development plans.
  • Monitors the deployment of people on projects and pursuits and manages multiple concurrent projects of various topics and complexity
  • Prepares and participates in client and proposal related presentations
  • Has budgetary responsibility for large projects (typically net revenue greater than $10 million)
  • Promotes continuous quality monitoring and improvement. Monitors quality standards and practices
  • Directs the work of Service line-focused teams within the region. Carries out supervisory responsibilities either directly or indirectly through subordinate supervisors, planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; coaching and mentoring
  • Coordinate on teaming decisions with the Regional and Managing Directors
  • Take an active role in the development and mentoring of the Transportation group staff

Qualifications

  • NY PE licensure required
  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field required, Master’s degree preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive professional technical experience in transportation engineering in the Northeast required (NY and/or NJ), with at least 5 years of project management experience
  • Project management experience in Long Island, NY region required
  • Experience with NYSDOT projects required
  • Demonstrated and progressive relationships with NY area clients
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations and programs
  • Proven ability to manage a multidisciplinary team

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Hauppauge, NY is $176,000-240,000 and New York City is $185,000-250,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education and experience.
