ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s growing Raleigh, NC team is looking for a part-time Technical Editor (at least 20 hours weekly up to 35 hours depending on project needs) to work in hybrid capacity alongside our local safety team.
VHB’s Safety Practice works nationally with Federal, State, and local governments to improve roadway safety for all users. Projects include low-cost roadway safety improvements, safety plans, reference guides for State and local practitioners, and tools for communicating research into practice (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, online videos, articles).
Responsibilities
Clients | Visibility | Pursuits
- Communicates and coordinates regularly with marketing and technical partners to ensure integration of pursuit strategy from pre-positioning efforts into proposals and post-award client project deliverables. Typically serves as lead editor on post-award Standard and/or Strategic client project deliverables.
- Supports revenue growth through integration of pursuit strategy, QA/QC of proposals and their production, thorough review of and adherence to RFP requirements, and development and production of on-time and on-budget project client deliverables.
- Provides guidance and feedback to marketers and designers during proposal and/or deliverable development and production to ensure appropriate technical editing and QA/QC.
- Supports visibility efforts through the production of high-quality client deliverables.
- Works closely with marketing management regarding the status of assigned projects. Provides regular updates on scheduling resources and priorities. Recommends and coordinates adjustments to balance workloads and meet deadlines.
Technical Editing & Production
- Edits draft responses for clarity, grammar, sentence structure, and spelling.
- Ensures proposal style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations are incorporated in production of deliverables and proposals.
- Provides technical editing on deliverables.
- Supports proposal development and delivery through collaborative production and document assembly.
- Coordinates the production of multiple, simultaneous proposal and/or client deliverable efforts on varying timelines.
- Communicates production issues in a timely manner to marketing and technical partners.
- Identifies and recommends solutions to writing and production problems.
- Documents lessons learned and best practices on proposal and interview production efforts. Identifies opportunities for process improvement and training.
- Provides all editing services on time and within the project and client’s budget.
- Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
- Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Persuasive writing techniques, using compelling and persuasive content in proposals and client deliverables.
- Exceptional editing skills with ability to quickly and accurately edit and reformat documents under time constraints.
- Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills.
- Ability to adapt to and communicate changes with ease.
- Basic to intermediate skills with Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
- Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of proposal and content writing and technical editing experience preferably in the AEC industry
- BA/BS in Marketing, English, Communications, or related discipline. Two years of experience and an associate or four years of direct experience may be substituted for Bachelor’s degree
- Certification in industry affiliations (i.e., CPSM, APMP), preferred
