Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s New York City office is seeking a Rail Signal Intern to work on signal engineering projects during the Summer of 2025. The intern will learn technical skills and design approach with relation to railroad and transit signal systems.

 

Responsibilities

  • Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
  • Engineering calculations
  • Contract documents including specifications
  • Assist in planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transit-focused system infrastructure projects
  • Produce/draw railway signal and comms design drawings in CAD
  • Survey of existing signal and comms equipment on MTA and MNR

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with clients
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail
  • Robust technical and critical thinking skills
  • Exposure to CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Must have the ability to conduct tasks independently
  • Strong interest in comms and signal engineering

Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19/hr - $28/hr. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
