ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s growing NET+ Solutions team is seeking an intern to join the team for Spring/Summer 2025. This position will be based in our New York City, NY office.
As an Energy Solutions Intern, you will provide support to the Energy Evolution Practice’s NET+ Solutions Team, contributing to both project work and policy analysis. This role is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in energy and sustainability projects, while assisting in regional energy and sustainability policy analysis. You will play a proactive role in shaping the future of our energy practice, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, scientists, and technologists. This internship is designed for a self-starter who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute to innovative energy solutions.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Support energy and sustainability projects, including research, analysis, and technical support for various initiatives.
- Assist in regional energy and sustainability policy analysis, providing insights into current trends, regulations, and technologies impacting the region.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to contribute to both energy solutions and policy development, helping to shape the organization’s energy practice.
- Gather and analyze data related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability efforts in the region.
- Help prepare reports, presentations, and documentation for both internal and client-facing purposes.
- Stay current on energy-related trends, innovative technologies, and emerging policies in the energy and sustainability sectors.
- Participate in team meetings, offering ideas and solutions to enhance project and policy outcomes.
- Provide general administrative support as needed, helping to keep projects organized and on schedule.
Skills & Knowledge
- Familiarity with energy policy, sustainability frameworks, and innovative technologies (e.g., renewable energy systems, energy efficiency programs).
- Understanding of the AEC industry and its relationship to energy and sustainability efforts.
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and trends.
- Ability to synthesize information and present findings in a clear, concise manner.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset.
- Knowledge of Energy Modeling, Energy Economics, Building Systems, and Sustainable Design practices (a plus).
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in architecture, urban planning, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
- Previous internship or academic experience in sustainability, energy policy, or a related area, preferred.
- Strong interest in energy solutions, sustainability practices, and the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and make meaningful contributions to the evolving field of energy and sustainability. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about shaping a sustainable future and excited to learn from an experienced, interdisciplinary team.
Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19 to $28 per hour. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
