ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB is looking for an entry- to mid-level Transit Planner to join our Transit and Rail Planning team in North Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Perform analysis tasks via Excel and/or GIS on a variety of Transit and Rail projects.
- Develop mapping and graphical concepts to communicate concepts to clients
- Prepare technical reports for Transit and Rail planning projects such as Transit Development Plans
- Prepare briefings and present analysis and findings in client and/or public meetings
- Participate in data collection activities such as bus stop inventories
- Develop methodologies to analyze large datasets
- Understand transit funding and policies
- Work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-discipline team environment
Skills and Abilities
- Interest in transit planning with a focus on long-term transit planning
- Desire to work with transit agencies across North Carolina and the Mid-Atlantic
- Willingness to help transit agencies with a multitude of different types of projects and problems
- Working knowledge of GIS software (mapmaking and analysis) is a must
- Strong writing and analytical skills
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of all applications within the Microsoft Office software group
- Working knowledge of virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Teams, etc.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively on teams and a desire to grow professionally as a technical expert
- Capacity to juggle multiple assignments and competing priorities
- Comfort level working collaboratively and independently, in person and virtually
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1+ years’ experience in transit/transportation planning and/or operations
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field
- Working knowledge of Esri ArcGIS software
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Urban Planning
- Transit agency experience
- One or more years working in the transit planning field
