Structural Bridge Engineer

Responsibilities
- Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
- Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and calculation packages
- Provide technical support to structural engineering staff
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.
- Assist in preparing qualification packages, proposals, and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling
- Provide project management support
- Lead structural inspections/evaluations and associated load capacity ratings
- Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews
- Assist project managers with coordination between various groups working on structural projects (e.g., highway, pedestrian, and railroad bridges; commuter rail stations; marine structures; energy projects; retaining walls)
- Participate in the proposal process, determining client requirements and developing plans, specifications, quantities of materials, construction cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, and related documents. Prepare technical reports and sections of proposals and/or contracts
Skills & Abilities
- Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents, and developing contract plans in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures
- Strong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software (e.g., Mathcad, FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.)
- Model-based design experience is a strong plus, including:
- Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads
- AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor
- Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and quality
- Strong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinking
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing
- Experience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staff
- Project management skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5-8 years of structural bridge/transportation design experience required
- B.S. in Civil Engineering required (structural emphasis preferred)
- PE license required or ability to attain within 6 months
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required
The base salary range for this position is $95,000 - $140,000 for the Washington, DC location. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
