ABOUT THE POSITION

New York City Real Estate Market Leader | New York, NY

VHB is seeking a driven New York City Real Estate Market Leader for our growing practice to join our leadership team. The successful candidate must have extensive operational, business development and project management experience, and be knowledgeable in the development project planning and design, land development, entitlement/permitting, and/or capital project design, with existing relationships and contacts at the decision-making level across New York City. In addition to aiding in the development of a market growth strategy, the Market Leader will be responsible for managing key client relationships, coordinating project teams, and overseeing planning, entitlement, land development, and other projects in the New York metro area. The position requires a proven ability to establish meaningful client relationships, manage projects, develop business, and coach and mentor staff.

Responsibilities
• Partners with the Northeast Regional Real Estate Market Leader and New York City Managing Director to prioritize market opportunities and VHB’s ability to maximize success and capture market share.
• Partners with key leadership across the NYC office on market expansion strategies, client relationship development, and project planning.
• Sets the strategic direction and develops Real Estate Market, and related Market initiatives including growing client base to further diversify our business.
• Actively collaborates with the Northeast Real Estate and Corporate Real Estate Market Leaders, other local Market leaders, as well as the Northeast Marketing and multi-disciplinary NYC Leadership Team to set a vision and strategy for the market.
• Conducts market research and leads the office business plan development for the real estate market and tracks and oversees the achievement of strategic business and financial goals in these markets.
• Possesses a comprehensive understanding of VHB’s services and capabilities, including how VHB adds value to real estate projects in the city and beyond.
• Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate this value to clients and external partners, fostering strong relationships and awareness of VHB's benefit
• Participates in the development and execution of visibility strategies, including active engagement with key industry organizations, and attendance at conferences and events.
• Drives the identification, pursuit and development of firm relationships with developers, land use attorneys, architects, investors, and economic development and housing agencies throughout the City.
• Demonstrates business acumen through a thorough understanding and analysis of financial reports and other business tracking systems
• Works closely with the NYC Environmental, Mobility and Engineering teams to assist with operations/financials, service offerings, recruiting and staff development/mentoring.
• Prepares proposals with varying degrees of complexity in partnership with NYC technical Service Directors
• Serve as Principal-in-Charge or Senior Project Manager on select projects and oversees relationships with key clients as it relates to performance and project delivery, and manages important project assignments.
• Serves as a VHB ambassador, promoting VHB’s success and seeking innovative ways to lead industry engagement and increase visibility in key external organizations.
• Engages in prioritized Project Review meetings to manage financial expectations, support client relations, and discuss project creation opportunities
• Assists Project Managers with action items, delivering projects, and following VHB best business practices.

• Demonstrated track record in managing and growing an operation.
• Proven ability to build, oversee and lead a team of industry professionals.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of the markets that VHB serves, the services that VHB offers, and actively promotes the concept of integrated thinking within the organization.
• Ability to think and act strategically in developing business practices and approaches.
• Understands the importance of strong local context knowledge and ability to develop key external relationships critical to building prominence and business.
• Exceptional teamwork and collaboration skills, including ability to mentor staff and successfully leading complex, multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
• Highly motivated self-starter.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

 

Qualifications
• 10+ years of relevant experience required and 12-15+ years of relevant management experience preferred.
• BS in civil engineering, urban planning, transportation planning, management or a related field. Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
• Prior experience in management and leadership positions.
• Knowledgeable in a broad range of planning, transportation and engineering topics, spanning both the public and private sectors
• Strong external reputation in given market preferred

 

The New York City Real Estate Market Leader is a full-time role that requires spending at least 60% of working time in the office to foster team collaboration and support overall market team effectiveness.

 

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $175,000-$200,000. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
