Geomatics Intern

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a Geomatics Summer Intern to join its collaborative team in our Cleveland Street office in Virginia Beach, VA. This individual will provide support to the Geomatics team in the collection of field data and information related to the preparation of survey maps and CAD files. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of progressive technologies as you work directly with an experienced and dynamic team of geomatics professionals and interact with technical specialists in other disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Support the field crew in collecting hydrographic and topographic data;
• Gain exposure to conventional survey methods;
• Gain exposure to single beam and multibeam hydrographic survey technologies and HYPACK software;
• Support the crew in performing crane rail surveys;
• Perform construction layout;
• Assist with office tasks including, but not limited to CAD drafting, data download, deed and map research, and filing;
• Maintain survey equipment and initiate repairs when necessary;
• Remain current on surveying practices, guidelines, and best practices; attend internal training to expand knowledge and skills; and
• Perform other duties as requested.

Skills and Attributes

• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program is preferred (Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field)
• 0+ years of prior progressive land surveying experience
