ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Vermont Structural Team has an opening for an enthusiastic Structural Bridge Engineer to join our established and growing team. You will be working on a wide variety of bridge projects in Vermont and New England using cutting edge tools to design and create digital models of bridges. Our bridge projects support multimodal transportation in Vermont and across New England with a design philosophy that emphasizes innovation, sustainability, resilience and constructability. Our team works in a hybrid environment that promotes team office days and allows flexibility to work remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural modeling and design of highway, pedestrian and railroad bridges and other structures
  • Create plans and digital models of the bridges and highway bridge approaches
  • Perform bridge inspections
  • Develop construction cost estimates
  • Prepare contract documents
  • Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews

Skills and Attributes

  • Should possess strong technical skills in bridge/structural design of steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and timber bridges or other structures
  • Experience developing design reports, plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and commitment to learning
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Training and mentoring skills
  • Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment  

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
  • 5-8+ years of professional structural/transportation/bridge design experience required 
  • PE license required
  • Successful completion of NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training a plus
  • Familiarity with structural modeling/engineering software is a plus
  • Bentley MicroStation, Open Bridge and Open Roads, and ESRI GIS software experience a plus

The estimated hiring salary range for this position is $81,000-$110,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
