ABOUT THE POSITION

Site Civil Design Engineer – Land Development | Hybrid | Wethersfield, CT

 

VHB is looking for a talented Site Civil Design Engineer to join our expanding Connecticut team and play a key role in shaping the future of our Land Development practice. From retail and residential communities to institutional, renewable energy, and industrial projects, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio that impacts how people live, work, and thrive.

 

In this role, you’ll collaborate with a dynamic team of professionals to create innovative site designs, detailed engineering plans, and technical reports that bring our clients’ visions to life. Responsibilities

  • Work independently with a team of professionals in developing site civil engineering plans, reports and specifications for a multitude of land development projects
  • Assist with civil engineering for retail, residential, institutional, renewable energy and industrial site design including grading and drainage design, utility design, and site layout
  • Preparation and/or reviewing of design criteria, drawings and specifications
  • Preparation of schematic design, design development, and construction contract documentation
  • Assist with the preparation of permitting, design and construction documents
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues
  • Technical and design report writing

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with other emerging professionals and managers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office, virtual, and field environment, in rural or urban environments
  • Proven strong work-ethic and self-motivated to produce high quality outcomes
  • Highly organized, and detail oriented, with ability to think creatively and formulate solutions in team environment
  • Knowledge of local and state regulations governing site design

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field of study required, Master’s degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • 5-8+ years of professional site/civil design engineering experience required
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, TR-55 and Rational Method for drainage design (i.e., HydroCAD, and StormCAD) required
  • PE license or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Non-PE licensed candidates will be considered
  • Solid understanding of the typical land entitlement process in CT including permitting at the local and state level preferred
