Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Washington DC and Tyson's Corner, VA team is looking for a Transportation Intern to join our Multimodal Operations & Engineering and Transportation Systems group. The selected candidate will work with a team of traffic engineers and transportation planners on a variety of public, private and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands and aviation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Working within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of multimodal transportation projects
  • Developing sign, pavement marking, and traffic signal design plans in MicroStation
  • Developing traffic signal timing plans
  • Researching best practices for traffic and transportation policy
  • Preparing written documents, summarize data and analysis, and assemble reports to convey findings and recommendations
  • Collecting and tabulating traffic data
  • Performing traffic engineering studies using Synchro, VISSIM, and other analysis tools
  • Analyzing intersection and roadway level of service
  • Performing quantity take-offs and cost estimates
  • Analyzing, developing, and evaluating of traffic improvements

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to independently perform multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with coworkers.
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with transportation planning and traffic engineering principles and resources.
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing undergraduate or master’s degree in civil engineering

VHB does not provide housing for internships.

 

Hiring Salary Range - $19/hr - $30/hr. However, the final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, and experience. In addition, VHB offers intern benefits which can be found here.
