ABOUT THE POSITION

 

Transportation Engineer | Charlotte, NC

VHB’s growing Charlotte, NC office is looking for a Transportation Engineer to join our Traffic Operations group. The selected candidate will work with a team of transportation planners and engineers on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, higher education, and federal agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Task Manager or Project Manager on traffic engineering and planning projects
  • Prepare and/or lead traffic impact and safety studies
  • Complete traffic operational improvement studies for localized intersections and corridors
  • Provide analyses of traffic safety issues and crash reduction measures
  • Work with a team of professionals in a variety of transportation-related areas to develop mobility solutions which consider all users integrating Complete Street concepts within urban and suburban communities
  • Perform field work services for signal, road safety audit, and/or other transportation assignments
  • Conduct research and preparation of reports, and presenting findings and results to transportation agencies and clients 
  • Develop analyses and reports consistent with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) traffic operations and safety policies and practices

 Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Motivated to lead and mentor others
  • Ability to think critically and strategically 
  • Familiarity with local municipality and NCDOT policy and standards
  • Experience with Synchro, TransModeler, SIDRA, Microstation, ArcGIS a plus

Qualifications

  • Background in traffic engineering and project management
  • BS in Civil Engineering 
  • 5-8+ years of professional transportation engineering and/or planning experience
  • PE licensure in NC or ability to obtain within 6 months

The full-time annual base salary range for this position, located in Charlotte, NC, is $90,000 to $120,000. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program. 

 

Annual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
