How You’ll Make an Impact

Responsibilities

  • Work within a collaborative team to develop site civil engineering plans and specifications for a wide range of land development projects.
  • Prepare site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and related design elements using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other tools.
  • Contribute to construction documents, technical specifications, and engineering reports, with a focus on accuracy and high-quality work.
  • Support stormwater management, utility design, and sustainable site design solutions that improve community resilience.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in other VHB offices and disciplines—including transportation, environmental, and planning—on integrated project teams.
  • As you gain experience, help train and mentor junior staff on technical standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Participate in professional organizations and business development activities as your interests and experience grow.

What You Bring

Skills and Attributes

  • Interest in innovative, practical design solutions for complex, real-world projects.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills—you’re comfortable asking questions and collaborating.
  • A learning mindset and willingness to work on integrated projects with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to high-quality work, sustainability, and resilience in the built environment.
  • Familiarity with land development processes; knowledge of Massachusetts-area codes, ordinances, and development regulations is a plus.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or a related degree.
  • 1–3+ years of civil engineering experience (internship, co-op, or full-time) in land development, site design, or related areas.
  • EIT licensure or FE Exam passed preferred (or in progress).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with any of the following is a plus:
    • HydroCAD, WaterCAD, WaterGEMS
    • Microsoft Project
    • BIM 360 or similar cloud collaboration platforms
