ABOUT THE POSITION

 

Senior Site/Civil Engineer | Hybrid | Watertown, MA – On call/as needed

VHB’s Land Engineering team is looking to add a Senior Site/Civil Engineer. This role would suit an engineer who would like a flexible work schedule and work as needed while being part of the Watertown office. The team specializes in land development with a multidisciplinary approach including civil engineering, environmental services, planning, surveying, and transportation. VHB delivers comprehensive solutions from site assessment and feasibility studies to permitting, design, and construction administration. They focus on sustainable development in residential, commercial, mixed-use, and public infrastructure projects. Using innovative technology and local knowledge, VHB ensures efficient, responsible project delivery that meets regulatory and community needs, enhancing the built environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with engineers, planners, and designers to develop civil engineering plans and specifications for a wide range of land development and transportation-related projects.
  • Contribute to design work in stormwater management, site layout, grading, utility systems, and erosion/sediment control.
  • Oversee the preparation of plans and construction documents.
  • Perform engineering analyses and assist in preparing supporting calculations and technical documentation.
  • Create text and spreadsheet documents, manage project data, and support regulatory submittals and permitting processes.
  • Coordinate with local and regional agencies to help secure development approvals.
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships.

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines.
  • High interest in water resources, stormwater systems, and sustainable infrastructure design.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated, with strong time management and multitasking skills.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new tools and platforms.
  • Desire to work on unique, complex, and high-impact projects that shape communities for generations.

Qualifications

  • 25+ years of professional civil engineering experience. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline.
  • PE license
  • Experience in Massachusetts land development, site design, or infrastructure planning is highly desirable.

The hourly salary range for this position is $150 to $200 per hour if located in Watertown, MA. The rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. This position is not eligible for benefits.
