ABOUT THE POSITION Senior Transportation/Traffic Engineer | Tampa, FL VHB’s growing Tampa, FL office is seeking a mid-level Transportation/Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Planning & Operations group. The selected candidate will work with a team of transportation planners and traffic/civil engineers on a variety of public, private-sector and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including real estate development, municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands, and aviation. ABOUT THE POSITION VHB has an exciting opportunity for a Bridge Inspection Assistant/Team Member to join our Structures group’s growing bridge inspection practice. If you want to work alongside an extremely supportive leadership team; a team whose experience spans many years and a culture that focuses on retaining our employees with an industry-leading work/life balance, then we need to speak.   Bridge Inspection In this position, you will serve an important role in the planning and execution of bridge inspections. The role would involve serving as an inspection Team Member to plan and perform bridge and culvert inspections with a senior Inspection Team Leader. Tasks would include the development of field notes, assembly of record documents, and upon completion of the inspection, generating inspection reports utilizing standard formats. The work would involve a mix of office and field work which utilizes aerial lifts and ladders. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB’s emerging bridge inspection practice.   The opportunity includes the necessary training to safely perform fieldwork.  VHB will train eligible candidates for all safety requirements and NHI qualifications.   The ideal candidate will be willing to work and enjoy being in the field up to 50% of the time.  In addition, VHB’s structural practice has many opportunities to allow the candidate to become involved in bridge design tasks and load ratings as desired to help work towards further career development and attain a PE license.   Responsibilities - Planning and performing structural inspections of highway and railroad bridges, culverts, ancillary structures, and buildings - Preparation of field note sheets utilizing CAD or PDF editing software for use during inspections - Completing bridge inspection report narratives, sketches, photos, and basic repair and rehabilitation cost estimates.   Skills & Abilities - Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, adjacent to live highway, and adjacent to railroad traffic - Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills - Proactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and quality - Strong organizational and time management skills - Enthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibility - Ability and willingness to work overnight when required for specific access requirements on roadways and on ROW tracks. - Ability and willingness to travel (throughout New England), including overnight to support other VHB offices as necessary - Experience with vertical lift equipment, under-bridge inspection trucks and rope access credentials are a plus - Familiarity with MassDOT, AASHTO, and AREMA design codes are a plus Qualifications - 1+ years of inspection experience - High school diploma or GED required - Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering technology or civil engineering preferred - NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course preferred - NHI/FHWA Fracture Critical course preferred WE ARE VHB!
