ABOUT THE POSITION VHB is seeking an entry-level Engineer to join our growing Transit & Rail practice.  The position is located in our Wethersfield, CT office. VHB’s passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments. ABOUT THE POSITION VHB is seeking an experienced Geomatics Equipment Operator to work in the Raleigh, NC area. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.   Responsibilities - Perform various land surveying tasks under the direction of more senior Land Surveyors including: Operation, transport and setup of Total Stations (Manual and Robotic), Data Collectors, GPS, and other Land Surveying equipment. - Reconnaissance and recovery of Land Surveying markers through use of hand tools, brush cutting, and digging. - Ability to transport Land Surveying Equipment, navigate and traverse through difficult terrain, environments and wooded areas. - Performs construction stakeout of proposed improvements, including the installation of stakes through use of sledgehammers and hand tools.   - Maintains proper care of all survey equipment. - Requires valid Driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles, including large cargo vans. - Some overnight travel may be required from time to time due to workshare opportunities with other VHB offices.     - Documents all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection  - Land surveying including, but not limited to, Boundary, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Existing Conditions & Topographic survey, Construction layout, and utility surveys.   Skills and Attributes - Ability to learn the proper use of GPS equipment and Manual and or Robotic Instruments. In this position, you would help lead the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects throughout Florida and other states in which VHB operates.   Responsibilities - Develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for bridge-focused projects - Participates in proposals and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling - Development of design plans, technical specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc. - Ensures that production of plans, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, quality requirements Skills & Abilities - Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering of transportation related structures - Must possess strong technical and critical thinking skills - Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing is essential - Team oriented with strong capability to work independently - Detail oriented and quality focused - Strong organizational and time management skills - Motivated to lead and mentor junior staff Qualifications - 5-8 years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD preferred, FDOT experience a strong plus) - 8-11 years preferred - B.S. in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred) (1-2 years of experience can be substituted for a master's degree) - EIT required, PE license expected - Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs - Strong familiarity with structural engineering software (FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, Mathcad, FDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.) - AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation v8 and Connect experience is a strong plus WE ARE VHB!
