VHB’s Water Resources group is growing across MA and RI, and we're looking for a Water Resources Engineer/Designer to join its dynamic team. We are looking for an experienced water resources professional to work with our existing water resource group and support our work in the areas of stormwater management and design, hydrology and hydraulics analysis, culvert and bridge design, and resiliency efforts, among others. This person will help us assist our clients with developing strategic, cost-effective and forward thinking solutions to their water resource, ecological restoration, transportation and environmental projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead tasks under the supervision of the project manager on multi-disciplinary projects with hydrologic, hydraulic, stormwater design or water quality focus including interaction with staff and clients
- Prepare and review stormwater management and natural system design drawings and specifications
- Prepare technical reports, plans and specifications
- Develop project proposals, scopes of work and fee estimates
- Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues with them
- Mentor junior staff in both technical and professional aspects

Water Resources Project Manager | Watertown, MA
VHB’s Water Resources group is growing across MA, and we're looking for a Project Manager/ Water Resources Engineer to join its dynamic team of Water Resource engineers and water quality specialists. In this position you will assist our clients with developing strategic, cost-effective, and forward-thinking solutions to their water resource, ecological restoration, transportation, and environmental challenges. You will have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, ranging from site to watershed scale. Projects may include stormwater designs, bridge hydraulics and scour, stream restorations, flood mitigation and management, and coastal resiliency.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Geomatics team have a need for a Geomatics Project Manager to join our New England region. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in Land Surveying for a variety of applications, including boundary determinations, topographic surveys, utility surveys, highway surveys and subdivisions. The position requires up-to-date knowledge of current technologies, and a proven ability to manage land surveying projects.
Responsibilities
- Manages projects, project staff, and clients
- Project management, including management of budget, scope and schedule for small, moderate and large land survey projects

- Performance and/or oversight of surveying calculations
- Analysis and interpretation of public records research, including deeds, plans and other pertinent documents for the project

ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s growing Southeast Environmental Services team has an immediate need for a Water Resource Director in our Orlando, FL office. The successful candidate will have at least 15 years of professional experience, including water resource consulting experience in the energy, transportation, land development/engineering, and/or local government markets. Applicants should be experienced in designing studies, analyzing data, modeling, and with the preparation of reports and local, state, and federal environmental permit applications within their water resource discipline. In addition to leading water resource discipline work as part of high-profile transportation, private land development, and environmental/natural resource projects, the Water Resources Director will also be responsible for leading business development efforts and the supervision and mentoring of water resources staff.
The position offers the opportunity to be a leader within our successful water resources practice that provides municipal, state, and federal governmental agencies and private sector clients throughout the Southeast Region with a full array of integrated professional water resources services including:
- Watershed management / Water quality treatment
- Stormwater engineering and management
- Floodplain management
A strong candidate for this role must be competent in performing water resources engineering work and demonstrate a broad knowledge of hydrologic/ hydraulic analysis and design methods. A strong candidate will be able to independently make sound engineering decisions, develop water resource design plans, write design specifications, and plan technical reports. The candidate understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering drawings and specifications. General Responsibilities

- Lead in performing engineering computations related to site hydrology and hydraulics (conveyance systems, analysis and design of cross drains, bridges, design of stormwater management facilities, floodplain compensation analysis), earthwork, stormwater BMPs, and natural channel design structural components

VHB is seeking a Mid-Level Transportation/Traffic Engineer with approximately 5-8 years of design experience to join our vibrant and growing transportation consulting practice in our New York City office.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Senior Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Manager | Hybrid | Vermont
VHB’s growing South Burlington, VT office is actively seeking a Senior Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Manager to join our regional Environmental Services Group. The position would serve as the technical lead for archaeology and cultural resource projects in Vermont and the surrounding region and would be a core member of our growing cultural resource practice throughout the eastern United States. This opportunity is anticipated to require the ability to complete cultural resource work for a variety of New England state agencies.
We are looking for a sharp, creative problem solver who is passionate about archaeological and historical properties. By working closely with our engineers, designers, planners, and clients, VHB strives to preserve and protect our shared cultural heritage across more than 30 offices along the East Coast.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct, lead, author, and/or review Vermont Archaeological Resource Assessments (ARAs), Cultural Resource Assessment Surveys, and Archaeological Resource Identification Surveys at the Phase I, II, and III levels of investigation.
- Conduct archival and historical background research.
- Assess archaeological site significance under Criterion D of the NRHP.
- Assess proposed infrastructure improvement and/or construction projects and other engineering related impacts to identified cultural resources.
- Prepare recommendations for the preservation, avoidance, and/or minimization of impacts to eligible or listed cultural resources.
- Coordinate regulatory compliance efforts with federal, state, and municipal agencies.
- Support other VHB departments and regional offices with archaeological and historic preservation planning, site history research, compliance with Vermont State regulations such as Act 250 and Section 248 of Title 30, as well as Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
- Provide artifact analysis and assist in curation efforts.
- Prepare field survey and geographic maps using the ESRI suite of software.
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget for cultural resource projects.
- Review/respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Support and build client relationships.
- Assist with mentoring and leading field, junior, and mid-level staff archaeologists.
Skills and Attributes
- Familiarity working with NEPA, ARPA, NHPA, NAGPRA, and New England state environmental compliance laws is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with and experience implementing the Guidelines for Conducting Archaeologyin Vermont and the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation Environmental Predictive Model for Locating Pre-contact Archaeological Sites is strongly preferred.
- Self-motivated with an attention to detail and the ability to think critically.
- Must be able to work independently and as a part of project teams.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience in digital photography is a plus.

Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field required; focus on Historical Archaeology or historic period site formation processes in New England preferred.
- Must meet the Secretary of the Interior (SOI) professional standards for archaeology.
- 8-11 years of professional experience in cultural resource management required; 11+ years preferred.
- Ability to conduct archaeology work in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and Rhode Island consistent with the current guidelines required; the ability to conduct and complete archaeological survey in all New England states preferred.
- The ability to travel to a location, walk/hike and conduct fieldwork for long hours, in inclement weather or rugged terrain.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.

ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s New England region has an immediate need for Survey Equipment Operators to join our Geomatics/Survey team.
Responsibilities
- Perform various land surveying tasks under the direction of the crew leader including; Operation, transport and setup of Total Stations, Data Collectors, GPS, and other Land Surveying equipment.
- Keep basic notes to assist the crew leader and remain productive
- Able to communicate clear directions to other crew members
- Reconnaissance and recovery of Land Surveying markers
- Ability to transport Land Surveying Equipment, navigate and traverse through difficult terrain, environments, and wooded areas
- Maintains proper care of all survey equipment
- Perform surveying tasks related to Boundary and Topographic Surveys
Skills and Attributes
- Desire and ability to learn and use different types of GPS, Robotic, and Total Station Instruments

VHB is seeking a Chief Engineer with 15+ years of experience to serve our client and project base in the New York Region. The successful candidate will be based in our Long Island office located in Hauppauge and will serve as a senior resource for the ongoing development, implementation, and monitoring of Quality Assurance/Quality Control and Risk Management processes and initiatives in collaboration with key leaders of VHB’s New York Region.

Senior Landscape Architect/Project Manager – Watertown, MA
Responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising landscape design activities. Exercises independent judgment analyzing all technical aspects of the project, defining the scope, selecting problems for investigation, developing concepts and approaches, and recommending landscape architectural design solutions.

The Transit & Rail Engineer will be part of a design team supporting a variety of railroad, rail transit, and bus transit projects. - Assist VHB team on high-profile projects like:
- Preliminary Engineering for the $2B Long Bridge railroad project between Arlington, VA and Washington, DC
- Final Design of VRE Crystal City Station in Arlington, VA
- Final Design of VRE L’Enfant Station in Washington, DC
- Preliminary Engineering for CC2DCA multimodal bridge connection project in Arlington, VA
- Arlington County Metro Crystal City East Entrance Design-Build as well as several other high-profile transit and rail projects along the same corridor
- Engineering efforts include supporting all aspects of project management, fieldwork, and design
- Perform civil design on a variety of rail projects including track structure and drainage, alignment geometry, grade crossings, stations, layover facilities, and maintenance of equipment (MOE) and maintenance of way (MOW) yards

ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s growing Manasquan, NJ office has an immediate need for a Geomatics Survey Data Technician to join our Geomatics/Survey team. This position includes both field and office work associated with land surveying and reality capture.
Responsibilities
- Operation, transport and setup of total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other land surveying equipment
- Completes field data review and post-processing activities
- QA/QC and processes information received from field and outside sources
- Land surveying including reality capture, boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic survey, route survey, construction stakeout and utility surveys
- Documenting all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection
- Perform survey office calculations to process field data
- Perform public records research to obtain deeds, plans and other pertinent documents for the project
- Apply the Principles of Boundary Surveying to review and interpret deeds and plans to determine the location of boundary lines
- Perform CAD 3D functions relating to the production and development of survey plans
- May perform field crew coordination and set up for all types of field surveys
- Direct the activities of a survey crew when needed
- Assists with process of training geomatics professionals in calculations, data collection, upload processes, and ESRI software platforms
- Ensures that project tasks have been completed, processed, reviewed, and delivered per project requirements and parameters
- Assists project managers with planning field tasks, maintaining schedule, and reporting project progress
Skills and Attributes
- Solid knowledge of geomatics mathematics, field procedure, and data collection principles, practices, methods, and procedures
- Knowledge and experience to support technical, survey reality capture and mapping calculations
- Thorough working knowledge of industry standard geomatics equipment (eq. survey equipment, GPS equipment, reality capture equipment) with ability to adapt to new equipment and emerging technologies

VHB is seeking a Senior Transit & Rail Project Manager to work in our growing Mid-Atlantic region. This role will lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers and designers in the development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of rail and transit infrastructure projects, including conceptual, preliminary, and final design involving light rail transit, bus rapid transit, commuter rail, intercity passenger rail, and freight rail improvements.

- Manage multiple, simultaneous efforts including projects of various topics and complexity
- Develop, manage, and maintain project schedules and budgets
- Lead development of project deliverables and provide quality control

Senior Transit & Rail Project Manager | New York, NY | Newark, NJ | Hybrid
VHB is seeking a Senior Transit & Rail Project Manager to work in our growing Northeast market. This role will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and designers in the development of studies, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of rail and transit infrastructure projects, including conceptual, preliminary, and final design involving light rail transit, bus rapid transit, commuter rail, intercity passenger rail, and freight rail improvements.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple, simultaneous efforts including projects of various topics and complexity
- Develop, manage, and maintain project schedules and budgets
- Lead development of project deliverables and provide quality control
- Work directly with client project manager and maintain a good relationship
- Manage financial progress through timely submittal of invoices and progress reports and initiation of change orders for out-of-scope services

- Experience with MTA New York City Transit, Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Railroad, New Jersey Transit, PANY&NJ PATH, and Amtrak strongly preferred
- Experience with bus operations and bus rapid transit preferred, including bus maintenance facilities
