About the Position VHB is growing!  We are seeking an experienced Bridge Inspection Assistant Team Leader to join our Structures group and our growing bridge inspection practice.   Bridge Inspection Assistant Team Leader In this position, you will serve an important role in the planning and execution of bridge inspections and the development of bridge load ratings. The role would involve serving as an inspection Team Member, planning, and coordinating inspections, and development of inspection reports. The work would involve a mix of office and field work. Responsibilities - Successfully support ongoing Coastal / Water Resources practice through contacts and business development efforts working with state and federal agencies, as well as private sector clients. - Assist in the development of qualifications and proposals for coastal resilience and coastal infrastructure-related RFPs. - Assist and ultimately manage and perform engineering analysis, preliminary, and detail design of coastal structures. - Assist and ultimately manage projects (scope, budget, schedule) and work with sub-consultants and team members and assure quality control of work throughout project execution, including: - all aspects for the design and permitting of waterfront developments including piers, marinas and boardwalks - analysis and design of structures for flood and erosion control such as seawalls, bulkheads, revetments and breakwaters, wave fences and fendering, and private and waterfront recreation structures such as fishing piers, marina docking structures, and boat launch ramps - contributing to living shoreline erosion solutions designs - conducting/reviewing technical analyses/calculations - completing mooring and berthing analyses and design - dredging design and permitting - preparation of project specifications, bid and contract documents - construction contract administration - site inspections and reports   Skills and Attributes - Experience working on multidisciplinary teams involving surveyors, environmental scientists, structural engineers, civil engineers, landscape architects and planner in support of coastal management, restoration, resiliency and adaptation efforts - Knowledge of FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program and experience implementing FEMA’s coastal flood hazard analysis and mapping methodologies. - Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. - Demonstrated technical and analytical skills, including technical writing and presentation skills. - Familiarity with industry standard analysis and design software.  - Team oriented with strong capability to work independently. - Highly organized. - Able to interpret and apply technical information contained in procedures and manuals to accomplish the design process for assigned projects. Qualifications - B.S. in Coastal or Ocean Engineering, Oceanography or related field. - 5+ years of experience in Coastal / Ocean Engineering. - Virginia PE required. - Knowledge of the regulatory processes in Virginia. - Experience with project delivery for multiple Federal, State and local coastal agencies/clients, specific experience with USACE, FEMA, USGS, NOAA preferred. Our clients include VDOT, NPS, counties, municipalities, and other state and federal agencies, and private partners who support the development of the places we live, work, recreate and learn.    Responsibilities - Perform engineering related duties as a lead project engineer including analysis and design on complex transportation projects, grading, stormwater management, erosion control, and plan preparation - Lead production of design deliverables including plan preparation, construction documents, specifications, estimates, reports, and technical memorandums - Client presentations to discuss project goals, challenges, and solutions - Lead and/or be part of a multi-discipline design team, including coordination with subconsultants - Collaborate with technical specialists to resolve technical and coordination issues - Field work for design and construction projects, as necessary - Employ QC/QA best practices, in compliance with VHB and client standards - Deliver related services associated with the construction bidding process and active construction - Lead and/or be part of a multi-disciplined team in business development activities including proposal development, presentations, scope of work, and fee development Skills/Abilities - AutoCAD with Civil 3D Corridor experience and/or MicroStation with Geopak or Open Roads experience required. - Ability to lead multiple concurrent projects and willingness to serve in a variety of roles within a design team - Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects - Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for project and business development - Capability to lead/mentor junior and project level staff - Adept at technical task management, oversight, and collaboration with other disciplines - Management of project scope and budgets - Aptitude for presentations and public speaking internally, externally, and publicly Qualifications - BS in Civil Engineering, MS preferred - 8+ years of professional transportation engineering experience - PE license in VA strongly preferred or be able to obtain within a year - Virginia Advanced Work Zone TCDS, VA a plus - Experience with VDOT funded project programs a plus - Must have valid driver’s license, as the position requires travel to client meetings and project sites New employees will be onboarded virtually and begin their employment from home.
