Responsibilities

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

VHB’s Williamsburg, Virginia and Virginia Beach, Virginia offices is seeking a Survey Equipment Operator to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Operation, transport and setup of Robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other land surveying equipment
- Land surveying including boundary line, topographic survey, construction stakeout and utility surveys
- Reconnaissance and recovery of land surveying markers through use of hand tools and digging
- Construction stakeout of proposed improvements, including installation of stakes through use of sledgehammers and hand tools
- Operation and maintenance of surveying equipment
- Documenting all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection
Skills and Attributes
- Proficient in reading, understanding, and evaluating the significance of survey, right-of-way, engineering, and architectural drawings with respect to each survey project

Duties include highway and drainage design, development of traffic control plans, cost estimating, right-of-way, and construction plans and a leadership role in project/task management. Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. - Identify, develop, and manage project pursuit opportunities

VHB is seeking a talented Entry Level Traffic Engineer/Planner to join our Transportation Systems team in Vermont or Maine. The selected candidate will work with a team of traffic engineers and transportation planners on a variety of public and private sector projects across several markets, including municipal, state agencies, private sector, and higher education.
Our ideal candidate has an interest in the practice of transportation engineering and planning across all modes and is eager to apply practical solutions to real world problems for our clients. Our ideal candidate is prepared to build their skills through on-the-job training on a variety of projects that may include traffic and transportation modeling and analyses; infrastructure projects; traffic signal design and timing; multimodal transportation safety studies; corridor studies; and regional planning studies across all modes. This position includes developing and enhancing a diverse set of skills on transportation design, operations, and/or planning projects throughout the state.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Hauppauge, NY is $87,000 to $115,000 and in New York City is $92,000-120,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.

VHB’s Water Resources group is growing across MA and RI, and we're looking for a Project Manager/ Senior Water Resources Engineer with strong hydraulics/hydrology experience to join its dynamic team of Water Resource Engineers and water quality specialists. In this position you will assist our clients with developing strategic, cost-effective, and forward-thinking solutions to their water resource, ecological restoration, transportation, and environmental challenges. You will have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, ranging from site to watershed scale. Projects may include stormwater retrofits, bridge hydraulics and scour, stream restorations, flood mitigation and management, and coastal resiliency.

VHB is seeking a Signal Engineer to join our dynamic growing Transportation practice in the Northeast. This position provides an opportunity to work on complex transit and rail infrastructure traction power projects and play an important role in expanding and shaping the group.
Under minimal direction, performs detailed phases of signal engineering design work for projects with complex features. Exercises independent judgment and decision making in evaluating, selecting, and applying advanced engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform work and make substantial adaptations and modifications as needed. Leads a team in developing signal engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of transit and railroad signaling projects (e.g., train control systems for light and heavy rail transit, and freight, commuter, intercity and high-speed railroad operations).

- Supports the installation, testing, and commissioning of rail based signaling, Communications Based Train Control (CBTC), and Positive Train Control (PTC) projects

Senior Electrical Engineer | Energy Practice | Any VHB Office | Hybrid
VHB is looking to add a Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive solar and battery storage design experience to our growing Energy Engineering practice. The position would work with other practice groups in VHB, including civil and structural engineering, environmental, planning, and regulatory groups primarily as part of an integrated team supporting renewable energy project design, permitting, and delivery.

Director of Civil Engineering | Newark, NJ
VHB is seeking a Director of Civil Engineering, seller-doer, to join our dynamic, well established Northeast Civil Engineering practice and be an integral part of our growth in Northern, NJ as a Practice Builder. The client base is state and local public agencies, private real estate developers, and Higher Education/Institutional Campuses. The position offers opportunity in expanding and continuing to shape the group.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a team producing and delivering civil design projects from inception through the construction administration phase
- Lead business development efforts, bringing new project opportunities; prepare and manage proposal submissions
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities, including planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; coaching and mentoring; and resolving staffing problems
- Oversee pre-design project planning and technical task management
- Knowledge of City, State, and Federal permitting
- Manage the development of technical design team
- Assist with strategy for expansion of civil services in NJ
- Monitor department financial performance
- Attend and lead meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders
- Attend VHB Leadership meetings, reporting on staff, workload, financial performance, and project performance
- Participate in professional organizations that promote relationships with clients and teaming partners

ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Water Resources group is growing across MA, and we're looking for a Water Resources Engineer/Designer to join its dynamic team. We are looking for an experienced water resources professional to work with our existing water resource group and support our work in the areas of stormwater management and design, hydrology and hydraulics analysis, culvert and bridge design, and resiliency efforts, among others. This person will help us assist our clients with developing strategic, cost-effective and forward thinking solutions to their water resource, ecological restoration, transportation and environmental projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead tasks under the supervision of the project manager on multi-disciplinary projects with hydrologic, hydraulic, stormwater design or water quality focus including interaction with staff and clients
- Prepare and review stormwater management and natural system design drawings and specifications
- Prepare technical reports, plans and specifications
- Develop project proposals, scopes of work and fee estimates
- Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues with them
- Mentor junior staff in both technical and professional aspects
- Responsible for project task management including task financial performance

- EIT/PE licensure preferred

ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s growing Hauppauge, NY office is seeking a Geomatics/Survey Project Manager to join our East Coast Geomatics team. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in Land Surveying for a variety of applications, including boundary determinations, topographic surveys, utility surveys, highway surveys and subdivisions. The position requires up-to-date knowledge of current technologies, and a proven ability to manage land surveying projects. Must be familiar with New England, Northeast, and colonial land surveying.
Responsibilities
- Manages projects, project staff, and clients
- Project management, including management of budget, scope, and schedule for small, moderate, and large land survey projects
- Management of project staff and clients
- Performance and/or oversight of surveying calculations
- Analysis and interpretation of public records research, including deeds, plans and other pertinent documents for the project
- Reviews and certifies work that staff has completed with a high-level of precision and accuracy
- Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed
- Coordination of field crews and Survey/CAD Technicians
- Perform field checks, manage quality control of all products
- Coordinate survey efforts with other groups in an integrated services environment
- Ability to perform “field to finish” land surveying
Skills and Attributes
- Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of Land Surveying, including legal requirements, boundary determinations and ALTA requirements
- Proficient in reading and understanding engineering, architectural, and structural drawings
- Knowledge of local subdivision and zoning requirements
- Thorough understanding of the use of up-to-date survey technologies and interface with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Ability to direct and monitor construction layout services
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
- Motivated to lead and mentor others
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional land surveying/geomatics experience, including managing land surveying projects
- High school diploma or GED
- Degree in Survey Engineering, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, or related field preferred
- NY PLS license preferred
- Must be familiar with New York and colonial land surveying
- Proficient in all aspects of land surveying including boundary line and topographic survey as well as construction stakeout
- Experience with electronic instruments, field data collectors, AutoCAD and Civil 3D software, GPS, and robotic instruments
- Experience with remote sensing technologies such as UAV’s and terrestrial scanning is desirable
- Experience with remote sensing software such as Leica Cyclone and global mapper is desirable
- Experience with ESRI software is desirable
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Hauppauge, NY is $120,000-150,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education and experience.
