About the Position VHB’s offices in Augusta and South Portland, ME, are seeking a Construction Inspector to work on a variety of bridge, roadway, and other transportation-based construction projects.   Responsibilities - Provide assurance that the project has been constructed in accordance with plans and specifications - Provide recommendations concerning construction issues - Review shop drawings and other submittal - Review pay requisitions from contractors - Prepare construction change orders and meeting minutes/correspondence related to the project - Review material tests results and reports - May serve as a Resident Engineer, or as a Senior Inspector under the supervision of a Resident Engineer, on MaineDOT or municipal projects Skills and Attributes - Strong technical knowledge of construction methods and practices related to highway, bridge, and/or marine projects - Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills - Excellent attention to detail - Ability to think critically and solve problems - Ability to work well in team-oriented structure - Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and construction specifications - Record of success working on public sector projects - Familiarity with state DOT software Qualifications - 5 years of construction inspection experience (3 years of bridge/highway inspection experience) - High school diploma or GED - AS or BS in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred - ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months - NETTCP HMA Paving Inspector certification preferred - NETTCP Quality Assurance Technologist certification preferred - NICET Level III to IV Certification in Transportation/Highway Construction, or current PE licensure in the state of Maine, preferred - Familiarity with MaineDOT construction inspection requirements and procedures - Valid driver’s license: frequent use of candidate’s own vehicle required WE ARE VHB! About the Position Geomatics Equipment Operator | Hauppauge, NY  Responsibilities   Perform various land surveying tasks under the direction of more senior Land Surveyors including: - Operation, transport and setup of Robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other land surveying equipment - Land surveying including boundary line, topographic survey, construction stakeout and utility surveys - Reconnaissance and recovery of land surveying markers through use of hand tools and digging - Construction stakeout of proposed improvements, including installation of stakes through use of sledgehammers and hand tools - Operation and maintenance of surveying equipment  - Documenting all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection   Skills and Abilities - Proficient in reading, understanding, and evaluating the significance of survey, right-of-way, engineering, and architectural drawings with respect to each survey project - Ability to learn the proper use of GPS equipment and Robotic Instruments and mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of geometry - Ability to learn and understand the basics of boundary, topographic, construction, and utility surveys - Able to think critically - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with survey staff and clients - AutoCAD experience desirable    Qualifications - HS Diploma, Associate, or bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying/Engineering or related field preferred, not required - 0-3 years of geomatics coursework - 0-3 years of professional land surveying experience and - Must be detail oriented, willing to travel and work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements - Ability to transport land surveying equipment, navigate and traverse through difficult terrain, environments, and wooded areas - Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record - Must be willing to travel and stay overnight for assignments outside local area (anticipated to be less than 15% of assignments) - Must be able to lift 75lbs - Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D desirable, but not required - Experience with Leica survey equipment desirable, but not required   Please submit applications online. VHB has an immediate need for a Regional Transportation Technology Manager for the local region to drive growth and to direct execution of VHB’s Transportation Technology programs in the local market.    The successful candidate responsible for establishing, guiding, directing, and overseeing VHB’s Transportation Technology services within the local market, consistent with VHB’s Strategic Plan and OneVHB.   The Transportation Technology Manager will partner with the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and the Transportation Technology Director, in outlining VHB’s strategic approach, identifying a roadmap for successful growth, evaluating performance, developing strategic planning, and assessing new business ventures in the transportation market.     Responsibilities: - Drives growth and directs execution of VHB’s Transportation Technology programs, working with CTO, Transportation Technology Group Leader (TTG), local Regional Manager (RM), and Service Leaders (SL) to bring the best transportation technology to client challenges (“value engineering with technology”). - Provides project executive oversight on key transportation-related technology projects to help ensure clear scoping and financially viable deliverables in the short and long term. - In collaboration with TTG Leaders and RM, identifies, develops, recruits and mentors VHB’s future transportation personnel with a focus on technology, including those with strong business development and client relationship expertise. - Understands the latest trends in transportation technology and works with SLs and RM to build and maintain local market knowledge to assist TTG leaders in making appropriate investment and prioritization decisions. - Evaluates strategic initiatives and provide guidance to CTO, TTG leaders, Regional Managers and Market and Service leaders as to their alignment with the overall transportation technology enabled strategy. Develop our vision for VHB in the coming years to achieve a strategic position in the Transportation Technology market for local region. - Provide technical knowledge ITS / Transportation Technology that ranges from planning, design, implementation, and operations of roadside infrastructure. - Understand the current Transportation Technology services / staff resources provided by VHB, and coordinate team strengths and weaknesses. - Assist marketing in development of VHB’s external visibility, branding and promotional efforts related to Transportation Technology in local markets. In addition, represent VHB at conferences, seminars, industry events and provide technical presentations. - Serve as Principal in Charge / Project Management on major strategic pursuits. You will establish, guide, direct, and oversee VHB’s Technology Enabled program throughout our current and targeted footprint to outline VHB’s strategic approach, identify a roadmap for successful growth, and assess new business ventures. Business development efforts will include client management and maintenance, new opportunity identification, and leading major project pursuits. Project delivery services will include leading complex application development and analysis projects from the early design phase through development and deployment.
