This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. About the Position VHB is seeking an experienced Survey Instrument Operator to work in the Virginia Beach, VA area. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Responsibilities - Perform various land surveying tasks under the direction of more senior Land Surveyors including; Operation, transport and setup of Total Stations (Manual and Robotic), Data Collectors, GPS, and other Land Surveying equipment. - Reconnaissance and recovery of Land Surveying markers through use of hand tools, brush cutting, and digging. - Ability to transport Land Surveying Equipment, navigate and traverse through difficult terrain, environments and wooded areas. - Performs construction stakeout of proposed improvements, including the installation of stakes through use of sledgehammers and hand tools.   - Maintains proper care of all survey equipment. - Requires valid Driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles, including large cargo vans. - Some overnight travel may be required from time to time due to workshare opportunities with other VHB offices.     - Documents all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection  - Land surveying including but not limited to Boundary line, Topographic survey, Construction stakeout, and utility surveys.     Skills and Attributes - Ability to learn the proper use of GPS equipment and Manual and or Robotic Instruments. Ability to learn mathematical concepts such as the fundamentals of geometry  - Understands the basics of Boundary Survey, Topographic, Construction, and Utility Surveys - Able to think critically - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with survey staff and clients   Qualifications - Must have a high school diploma, Associates degree preferred - 0-2 years of prior progressive land surveying experience - Must be detail oriented, willing to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements and willing to travel - Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and pass a drug screen and background check - Must be able to lift 50lbs   New employees will be onboarded virtually and begin their employment from home. About the Position Survey/CAD Tech II | Virginia Beach, VA Responsibilities   Perform various land surveying and CAD tasks under the direction of more senior Land Surveyors including: - Operation, transport and setup of total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other land surveying equipment - Land surveying including boundary line, topographic survey, construction stakeout and utility surveys - Documenting all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection - Perform survey office calculations to process field data - Perform public records research to obtain deeds, plans and other pertinent documents for the project - Apply the Principles of Boundary Surveying to review and interpret deeds and plans to determine the location of boundary lines - Perform CAD functions relating to the production and development of survey plans - May perform field crew coordination and set up for all types of field surveys - Direct the activities of a survey crew when needed   Skills & Abilities  - Ability to learn the proper use of GPS equipment and Robotic Instruments and mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of geometry - Understanding of the basics of boundary, topographic, construction, and utility surveys - Able to think critically - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with survey staff and clients - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry - Ability to conduct tasks independently and review work of others - Proficiency of Civil 3D software is required Qualifications - HS Diploma (Associates or Bachelors degree preferred) - 2+ years of progressive professional land surveying experience, including experience with CAD and/or other drafting software - Experienced in the Principles of Boundary Survey, Topographic, Construction/Utility Surveys and electronic data collection - Thorough understanding of ALTA and boundary surveys is required - Must be detail oriented, willing to travel and work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements - Ability to transport land surveying equipment, navigate and traverse through difficult terrain, environments and wooded areas - Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record - Must be able to lift 75lbs Please submit applications online.   New employees will be onboarded virtually and begin their employment from home.
