The intern program is designed to round out participants’ academic learning with real world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path.   Northeastern University Co-op term runs from July - December 2023.   VHB has a specialized and dedicated Transit & Rail Practice providing integrated services for commuter rail, heavy rail, light rail, intercity/high-speed rail, freight rail, bus rapid transit, bus, and streetcar systems in urban, suburban, and rural environments. Our team assists transportation agencies through all phases of a project with environmental documentation; station, facility, and right-of-way design; transit/rail structures; rail systems; planning; cost estimation; grant submittals; demand estimation; and operations analysis and simulation. ABOUT THE POSITION VHB’s Atlanta, GA office is seeking a temporary Archeologist Lab Technician to support our team for upcoming Phase I and II survey work. This position will be based out of the VHB Atlanta office in the Archaeology Laboratory. The Archaeology Lab Technician is responsible for the processing, cataloging, preserving, and analyzing of material recovered from archaeological investigations. In addition, the Archaeology Lab Technician is responsible for assisting the Archaeology Lab Manager with the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. While the primary responsibilities of this job are lab-related, this position may include Phase I field survey work at various locations throughout the US. Hotel room accommodations and meals will be reimbursed for all projects. Field vehicles and transportation to survey areas will also be provided. ABOUT THE POSITION Marketing Proposal Lead| Orlando, FL  | Atlanta, GA   Partners with marketing management, Market and Client Focus teams, and Pursuit Champions to execute marketing activities that support revenue growth. ABOUT THE POSITION Bat Biologist - Atlanta, GA | Telecommute flexible within VHB footprint   VHB is seeking exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for applied bat conservation and the natural sciences to join our Atlanta-based team as a Bat Biologist for projects across the Eastern U.S. In this position, you will utilize your knowledge and experience to perform bat acoustic surveys and analysis to support a variety of environmental services projects. Biologists will plan for, lead, and conduct acoustic or mist-net surveys for bats and analyze bat recordings, organize data, and produce reports documenting findings. You will be supported by an existing talented, diverse, and widely distributed team of VHB wildlife biologists and ecologists with range wide experience performing mistnetting and acoustic surveys, analysis, agency coordination, and documentation. This is a leadership role requiring strong technical, organizational, and communication skills in the field, office, and from remote workplace settings.   Our Atlanta-based team of natural resource professionals have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of land use and linear infrastructure projects that may include endangered species assessments, environmental impact studies, habitat restoration, wetland characterization and impact permitting, as well as wildlife and water resource management. In addition to bat surveys, the ideal candidate will have experience with other protected species surveys with an emphasis on protected species in the southeast, and wetland delineations.   Responsibilities Task leadership and performance of acoustic and or mist-nest surveys, including: - Conducting field surveys and habitat assessments for a variety of species using multiple survey techniques (e.g., acoustic, mist netting, and radio-telemetry). - Maintaining, managing, and deploying bat acoustic equipment. including equipment diagnostics and troubleshooting. Plus, deployment of equipment often requires travel and is seasonal in nature. - Conducting roost emergence counts. - Conducting hibernaculum surveys. - Conducting bridge and culvert roosting surveys. - Coordinating and leading survey teams. - Coordinating with site personnel and clients. Collecting, organizing, managing, and analyzing acoustic data, including but not limited to: noise removal, species identification, and activity index calculation. - Preparing progress reports and field assessment reports. - Writing technical acoustic reports for client and regulatory agency review - Processing acoustic files through automated software programs. - Other technical report writing (survey summaries, risk assessments, conservation plans) Additional responsibilities may also include, but are not limited to: - Support conducting additional protected species surveys including but not limited to pre-construction nesting bird and other special status species surveys, construction monitoring, as well as field habitat assessments and wetland delineations. - Using handheld and sub-meter accurate GPS data collection techniques. - Being tasked with conducting desktop constraints analysis using ArcGIS Online. - This position may require a long-term field deployments and seasonal long-distance travel. Skills and Attributes - Hold or qualify for a Federal Fish and Wildlife Section 10(a)(1)(A) permit for listed bat species to include, at a minimum, Indiana bat, gray bat, and northern long-eared bat. - Working knowledge of bat conservation issues, as well as species distribution and habitat requirements. - Minimum 2 years of demonstrated field experience with bat species of the eastern U.S., including appropriate bat mistnetting, capture, and tracking survey and decontamination techniques. - Demonstrated experience with, and knowledge of bat acoustic analysis, using bat call analysis software (e.g., Kaleidoscope Pro and AnalookW Sonobat, BCID) as well as manual/visual call-file vetting. - Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). - Familiarity with digital data collection and management methods such as ArcGIS Survey123, ArcGIS Field Maps, and ArcGIS Pro. - Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. - Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in sometimes inclement weather conditions. - Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day, often in rugged terrain. May have to carry equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. This position can be located in any of our VHB offices.    Primary Duties & Responsibilities - Participate/manage compensation surveys and associated deliverables, conduct market pricing, research and analysis on market competitiveness, pay equity, and compensation trends - Manage salary survey data in Marketpay; ensure data is up to date and sources are relevant. Serve as subject matter expert for this platform - Develop and maintain standardized job descriptions, determining appropriate exemption status under FLSA guidelines - Perform job analysis and benchmark positions to market-based salary structure. ABOUT THE POSITION VHB’s North Carolina team is looking for a Senior Project Manager – Highway Design to join our growing team. This position provides an opportunity to lead complex transportation projects for federal, state, and local government clients and play an important role in expanding and shaping the group. ABOUT THE POSITION Senior Transit Planner | Washington, DC VHB’s Metro DC, office is seeking an experienced Senior Transit Planner to join their Transit & Rail Planning team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. This position may include being embedded part-time with one of our transit clients to assist in developing bus rapid transit services.   The successful candidate will have at least eight years of professional experience in consulting in the bus transit field and with the management of projects for municipal, transit, regional, and/or state agencies.  Responsibilities - Serve as the technical task lead and/or project manager on multi-disciplinary bus transit projects - Coordinate technical work and stakeholder engagement, and lead public outreach efforts - Develop project strategies and approaches - Perform research and analysis and participate in making recommendations to clients - Technical report and other deliverables preparation - Assigns and manages the work of junior team members and may supervise them - Participates in business development activities, including planning strategy for proposals and contracts. - Track project deliverable progress and coordinate completion across teams - Coordinate and communicate with internal and external project team members Skills & Abilities - Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills - Confidence in public speaking before laypersons, stakeholders, and teaming partners - Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities - Team-oriented with strong capability to motivate others - Must demonstrate an ability in collaborative problem-solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates - Thorough understanding of technical transit and transportation planning analysis methods - Superior technical skills, producing consistent high-quality work products - Must be a highly motivated self-starter - Proficient in MS Office Qualifications - 5+ years’ experience in bus transit planning, with direct bus rapid transit experience preferred - Experience in project management, including organizing and training junior-level staff on project components - Experience in design, plan review, and/or construction management - Experience conducting transit analysis, preparing reports, and developing transit and rail service plans or concept designs - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in transportation, planning, engineering, or related field - Experience coordinating with public agency staff, private consultants, stakeholder outreach teams, and professionals in other disciplines for successful project completion - Ability to regularly attend in person one or more client locations throughout the Metro DC region This position requires COVID-19 vaccination per client requirements   WE ARE VHB!
