VHB has an immediate need for a Regional Transportation Technology Manager for the local region to drive growth and to direct execution of VHB’s Transportation Technology programs in the local market.    The successful candidate responsible for establishing, guiding, directing, and overseeing VHB’s Transportation Technology services within the local market, consistent with VHB’s Strategic Plan and OneVHB.   The Transportation Technology Manager will partner with the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and the Transportation Technology Director, in outlining VHB’s strategic approach, identifying a roadmap for successful growth, evaluating performance, developing strategic planning, and assessing new business ventures in the transportation market.     Responsibilities: - Drives growth and directs execution of VHB’s Transportation Technology programs, working with CTO, Transportation Technology Group Leader (TTG), local Regional Manager (RM), and Service Leaders (SL) to bring the best transportation technology to client challenges (“value engineering with technology”). - Provides project executive oversight on key transportation-related technology projects to help ensure clear scoping and financially viable deliverables in the short and long term. - In collaboration with TTG Leaders and RM, identifies, develops, recruits and mentors VHB’s future transportation personnel with a focus on technology, including those with strong business development and client relationship expertise. - Understands the latest trends in transportation technology and works with SLs and RM to build and maintain local market knowledge to assist TTG leaders in making appropriate investment and prioritization decisions. - Evaluates strategic initiatives and provide guidance to CTO, TTG leaders, Regional Managers and Market and Service leaders as to their alignment with the overall transportation technology enabled strategy. Develop our vision for VHB in the coming years to achieve a strategic position in the Transportation Technology market for local region. - Provide technical knowledge ITS / Transportation Technology that ranges from planning, design, implementation, and operations of roadside infrastructure. - Understand the current Transportation Technology services / staff resources provided by VHB, and coordinate team strengths and weaknesses. - Assist marketing in development of VHB’s external visibility, branding and promotional efforts related to Transportation Technology in local markets. In addition, represent VHB at conferences, seminars, industry events and provide technical presentations. - Serve as Principal in Charge / Project Management on major strategic pursuits. Responsibilities These responsibilities summarized below demonstrate a breadth of services in design, operations, safety, and policy.  The ultimate candidate does not need to be deeply knowledgeable of all technical areas; rather, the responsibilities could include some or all of these as determined by the candidate’s strengths and interests. - Provide direct leadership, client management, and practice building for the Metro DC transportation planning practice, including a variety of project types, such as area/development plans, corridor studies, long-range planning, safety/operational studies, transit plans, and active transportation projects. - Manage traffic engineering, transportation planning, and/or safety projects and contracts - Develop mobility solutions which consider all users, including motorists, bicyclists, public transit users and pedestrians of all ages and abilities - Oversee quality and contribute to complex technical decisions on a range of multimodal transportation planning and engineering assignments - Lead and support business development initiatives with existing or prospective clients and direct pursuits for local and regional transportation projects - Complete traffic safety and operational improvement studies for localized intersections and corridors - Provide analyses of traffic safety issues and crash reduction measures - Address community traffic engineering and safety issues - Manage projects involving simulation and signal optimization plans to maximize transportation system throughput (using Synchro, Sidra, Vissim or related software) - Support policy and design guidance documents for transportation systems, including traffic, technology, and control devices - Manage or support projects involving transportation technology including innovative, technology-driven approaches to serving transportation agency’s evolving needs - Work collaboratively with other Metro DC teams, including Planning + Design, Transit & Rail, and Site Civil practices - Perform as a mentor for transportation planning and engineering staff    Skills and Attributes - Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills - Presenting to citizens and at public meetings as part of project outreach - The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently - An understanding of effectively overseeing multi-disciplinary projects and teams - Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills - Team oriented with strong capability to work independently - Motivated to lead and mentor others   Qualifications - Background in transportation planning/engineering and project management - 11 – 20+ years of experience with professional transportation engineering - Degree in Civil Engineering or related field - Registered as a PE in DC, VA, and/or MD - Certification as a PTOE desirable   New employees will be onboarded virtually and begin their employment from home. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Responsibilities - Work within a team of professionals in developing civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of land development and transportation projects - Perform field work either alone or in pairs taking measurements and pictures. - Perform analysis of data. - Draft plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D. - Create text and spreadsheet documents and manipulate data.   Skills and Attributes - Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. - Team oriented with strong capability to work independently. - Ability to independently perform multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with coworkers. - Self-motivated with attention to detail. - Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software desired. - Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and excel) required. - Strong computer skills. - Motivated to lead and mentor others   Qualifications - 2-4 years of experience - Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering - EIT preferred - Prior Land Development experience   New employees will be onboarded virtually and begin their employment from home.
