We’re growing and we hope you’ll join us!   About the Position VHB is seeking a Chief Engineer with 15+ years of experience to serve our client and project base in Mid-Atlantic Region.   The successful candidate will report to the Land Development Service Leader in Mid-Atlantic and will be located in one of the three I-64 offices (Richmond, Williamsburg, or Virginia Beach) and will serve as a senior resource for the ongoing development, implementation, and monitoring of Quality Assurance/Quality Control and Risk Management processes and initiatives in collaboration with key leaders of VHB’s Mid-Atlantic Region and Corporate management team. About the Position VHB is actively looking for a Mid- Senior Level Coastal Engineer to join our team in Williamsburg, Virginia Beach or Richmond offices.  The Coastal Engineer will assist with the planning and design for waterfront and coastal structures projects, including living shoreline stabilization approaches, revetments, dredging, marinas, marine terminals, urban waterfront developments as well as wetland restoration. The ideal candidate for this position will have technical experience in designing and permitting a variety of coastal projects and is a licensed professional engineer.  The candidate who fills this position will join a high performing team that provides clients with multi-disciplinary engineering and science-based solutions to coastal management challenges including coastal engineering, coastal flood risk, resiliency and adaptation design, and dredged material management. Responsibilities - Successfully support ongoing Coastal / Water Resources practice through contacts and business development efforts working with state and federal agencies, as well as private sector clients. - Assist in the development of qualifications and proposals for coastal resilience and coastal infrastructure-related RFPs. - Assist and ultimately manage and perform engineering analysis, preliminary, and detail design of coastal structures. - Assist and ultimately manage projects (scope, budget, schedule) and work with sub-consultants and team members and assure quality control of work throughout project execution, including: - all aspects for the design and permitting of waterfront developments including piers, marinas and boardwalks - analysis and design of structures for flood and erosion control such as seawalls, bulkheads, revetments and breakwaters, wave fences and fendering, and private and waterfront recreation structures such as fishing piers, marina docking structures, and boat launch ramps - contributing to living shoreline erosion solutions designs - conducting/reviewing technical analyses/calculations - completing mooring and berthing analyses and design - dredging design and permitting - preparation of project specifications, bid and contract documents - construction contract administration - site inspections and reports   Skills and Attributes - Experience working on multidisciplinary teams involving surveyors, environmental scientists, structural engineers, civil engineers, landscape architects and planner in support of coastal management, restoration, resiliency and adaptation efforts - Knowledge of FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program and experience implementing FEMA’s coastal flood hazard analysis and mapping methodologies. - Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. - Demonstrated technical and analytical skills, including technical writing and presentation skills. - Familiarity with industry standard analysis and design software.  - Team oriented with strong capability to work independently. - Highly organized. - Able to interpret and apply technical information contained in procedures and manuals to accomplish the design process for assigned projects. Lead project pursuits (LOI, ELOI, Technical Proposals, Presentations, Manhours, etc.)  Performs lead discipline role in proposals and presentations - QC of construction plans, and design documents generated by other team members - Prepares cost and man-hour estimates, job budgets, and schedules - Assists management and marketing personnel with client visits, etc. - Capable of negotiating staff hours and preparing requests for supplemental agreements - Creating and expanding technical resources of staff - Acting as a mentor and aiding in staff development Technical - Lead the design of projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools, including transportation, local government, and land development projects - Lead in the developing technical reports (watershed study reports, drainage reports, pond siting reports, bridge hydraulics reports, and permitting documents), design plans, construction documents, and specifications for water resources related projects, for approval by municipalities and regulatory agencies - Lead in performing engineering computations related to site hydrology and hydraulics (conveyance systems, analysis and design of cross drains, bridges, design of stormwater management facilities, floodplain compensation analysis), earthwork, stormwater BMPs, and natural channel design structural components - Lead in conducting hydrologic and hydraulic studies using current modeling software including: ICPR 4, PONDS, HY-8, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, EPA SWMM, SRH-2D/SMS, and others - Overseeing the preparation of construction plans consistent with FDOT standards Skills and Attributes - Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills - Strong technical background in hydrology and hydraulics - Experience in acquiring new clients and client management - Experience and familiarity with the following programs is preferred: ICPR, PONDS, ASAD, GEOPAK Drainage, ArcGIS, HY-8, HEC-RAS, MicroStation, AutoCAD - Design experience with the FDOT Drainage Manual and FDOT Plans Preparation Manual - Knowledge with preparation and review of Engineering Plans and Specifications to ensure that all aspects of project implementation are clearly conveyed - Team-oriented with a strong capability to motivate others - Must be a highly motivated self-starter - Must demonstrate superior ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates - Well versed in FDOT design standards and criteria related to both drainage design and plans production; able to interpret and apply technical information contained in procedures and manuals to accomplish the design process for assigned projects  Qualifications - B.S. in engineering with at least 11 years of post-graduate experience - Registered Florida PE - Advanced understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs - Project management of relevant projects  - Knowledge of the regulatory processes in Florida. About the Position Geomatics Project Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing all Geomatics activities as they relate to Reality Capture. Oversees projects that provide 3D digital models, 2D drawings and registered point cloud datasets depicting the shape, contour, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering, mapmaking, land evaluation, construction, and other purposes. About the Position Geomatics Data Tech II (Survey CAD 3D Tech II) works on geomatics assignments that utilize point cloud and photogrammetric data to achieve various existing condition deliverables, including 3D digital models, 2D drawings and registered point cloud datasets.
