About the Position VHB’s growing Southeast Environmental Services team has an immediate need for a Water Resource Director.  This role can be filled in either our Tampa or Orlando, FL office. The successful candidate will have a least 15-20 years of professional experience, including water resource consulting experience in the energy, transportation, real estate, and/or local government markets. Applicants should be experienced in designing studies, analyzing data, modeling, and with the preparation of reports and local, state, and federal environmental permit applications within their water resource discipline. In addition to participating in high-profile transportation, private development, and environmental/natural resource projects, the Water Resources Director will also be responsible for leading business development efforts and the management and mentoring of water resources staff.   The position offers the opportunity to be a leader within our successful water resources practice that provides municipal, state, and federal governmental agencies and private sector clients throughout the Southeast Region with a full array of integrated professional water resources services including:  - Watershed / Water quality - Stormwater management - Floodplain management A strong candidate for this role must be competent in performing water resources engineering work and demonstrate a broad knowledge of hydrologic/ hydraulic analysis and design methods. Responsibilities: These responsibilities summarized below demonstrate a breadth of services in design, operations, safety, and policy.  The ultimate candidate does not need to be deeply knowledgeable of all technical areas; rather, the responsibilities could include some or all of these as determined by the candidate’s strengths and interests. - Manage traffic engineering, transportation planning, and/or safety projects and contracts - Oversee quality and contribute to complex technical decisions on a range of multimodal transportation engineering assignments - Apply deep understanding of traffic signal design, operations, and/or systems - Complete traffic safety and operational improvement studies for localized intersections and corridors - Provide analyses of traffic safety issues and crash reduction measures - Address community traffic engineering and safety issues - Manage projects involving the design of traffic control devices (signs, markings, signals) and/or ITS. - Manage projects involving simulation and signal optimization plans to maximize transportation system throughput (using Synchro, Sidra, Vissim or related software) - Complete interchange justification, functional design and access management reports - Develop mobility solutions which consider all users, including motorists, bicyclists, public transit users and pedestrians of all ages and abilities. - Support policy and design guidance documents for traffic, technology, and control devices. - Manage or support projects involving transportation technology including innovative, technology-driven approaches to serving transportation agency’s evolving needs. About the Position Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) is seeking a talented Project Engineer to join our growing Transit & Rail practice.  The position is located in our Wethersfield CT office.  VHB’s passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments. Together, we work to improve mobility, enhance communities and economic vitality, and balance development and infrastructure needs with environmental stewardship.  The Transit & Rail Project Engineer will be part of a design team supporting a variety of railroad and rail transit projects.  The candidate should have expertise and experience in the railroad and/or rail transit industry and a desire to grow in the business.  Responsibilities - Perform civil design on a variety of rail projects including track structure and drainage, alignment geometry, grade crossings, stations, layover facilities, and maintenance of equipment (MOE) and maintenance of way (MOW) yards - Support the Project Development process including preparation of conceptual level designs and supporting documentation - Develop specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules - Prepare technical reports and analyses - Assist in the development of construction bid documents - Provide design support services during construction - Work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-discipline team environment Skills and Attributes  - Strong technical design skills - Excellent verbal and written communications skills and analytical skills - Strong capability in the use of computer applications including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) - Experience with the MicroStation CADD platform is preferred but candidates with AutoCAD experience and the desire to learn MicroStation will be considered Qualifications - 3+ years of experience in railroad and/or rail transit and engineering design - Clear understanding of railroad and rail transit design requirements including AREMA recommended practices - Familiarity with track, station, layover facility and general civil engineering - Engineering in Training certification preferred About Us WE ARE VHB!
