VHB’s Environmental Group in Hauppauge, NY is looking for a Summer Intern to assist with Environmental Assessment Forms (EAFs), Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), other environmental planning efforts.  Other technical tasks may include develop GIS maps, data management, preparing permit applications and report writing. This is a paid, on-call internship to extend to the end of September 2022 contingent on available work. This position would provide an opportunity to explore the aspects of environmental planning and consulting. About the Position VHB is seeking a Traffic Engineer to support the National Parks Service, embedded in a client’s office in Denver Colorado.The NPS Traffic Program operates and maintains ~150 continuous traffic count stations located in ~50 parks in 27 states.   General Requirements - Traffic Engineer with at least 1-3 years of Experience - Experience with traffic monitoring practices and creating/utilizing a traffic database - Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required - Ability to hike up to 0.5 miles in rugged terrain to support field work in parks - Must be fully vaccinated based on current CDC standards - Must be a US Citizen and pass a federal background check   General Responsibilities - Redevelop and manage the NPS coverage count program, which will be comprised of approximately 600 short-term count stations - Draft initial contract language (e.g., scope of work, deliverables, etc) for this effort - Assist NPS Manager in the creation of monthly and annual traffic count reports for each park - Provide QA/QC support for the coverage count data - Conduct field work, scoping new count stations and/or inspecting/repairing existing count stations and creating inspection reports - Analyze traffic data in select parks for traffic patterns - Work with park units to troubleshoot and replace malfunctioning traffic count station components - Work with park units to conduct their annual inspections and review results - Drive Federal government vehicles - Travel to parks/sites – Candidate is anticipated to travel approximately 4-6 times per year - Experience in trouble-shooting electronic traffic monitoring/count station equipment is a plus This position requires COVID-19 vaccination per client requirements.   New employees will be onboarded virtually and begin their employment from home. Senior Land Development Permitting Specialist, MA VHB’s Boston office is seeking a senior-level Land Development Permitting Specialist to join our Urban Permitting Team (UPT), which focuses on complex high-profile development projects in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville, as well as across Massachusetts. There is also an opportunity for this person (based on experience) to lead the UPT.    The UPT works with private and public sector clients to secure approvals for real estate development projects based on their intended use, design, impacts, and compliance with relevant laws and regulation.  We manage teams that coordinate and perform analyses aimed at understanding the potential environmental impacts of these projects. We then organize this information and present it to government agencies; liaise between our clients and those agencies; and help refine project design, demonstrate regulatory compliance, and ultimately gain the approvals necessary to move the project forward to final design and construction.  This is a vital step in the real estate development process and provides the UPT with the chance to positively influence projects and ultimately increase the livability of our communities.   This position involves managing multi-disciplinary teams. It provides opportunities for both a broader understanding of all aspects of real estate development and specialization in topics of professional interest and development. You will have the opportunity to develop relationships with real estate developers, architects, engineers, sustainability professionals, transportation designers, attorneys, and government staff. Working as part of the UPT provides a career development path, opportunities for learning and knowledge sharing, and support for professional interests and growth.   Specific Duties   The candidate will lead multi-disciplinary project teams to assess potential project impacts related to urban design, transportation, wetlands/waterways, sustainability, climate change, wind and shadows, air quality, infrastructure, and historic resources, among other impacts. Problem solving, collaboration, and team leadership skills will be applied on a daily basis to complete a variety of tasks, including providing guidance on entitlement permitting strategies, developing work plans, drafting project narratives, coordinating project team member activities, and liaising with government agencies. The successful hire will manage projects requiring compliance with various environmental/development impact review-related processes and regulations, including: - The Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) - City of Boston Article 80 Review - City of Cambridge Article 19 Review - Massachusetts Chapter 91 Waterways - Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act - National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) - Other local, state and federal approvals. About the Position VHB is seeking a Traffic Technician for our Orlando, FL office.  Our Traffic Data Collection department is responsible for utilizing technology to perform multiple types of traffic surveying operations in order to gain data that is utilized by our engineers and project managers. About the Position Survey/CAD Tech II | South Burlington, VT Responsibilities   Perform various land surveying and CAD tasks under the direction of more senior Land Surveyors including: - Operation, transport and setup of total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other land surveying equipment - Land surveying including boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic survey, route survey, construction stakeout and utility surveys - Documenting all phases of survey work through clear field notes and data collection - Perform survey office calculations to process field data - Perform public records research to obtain deeds, plans and other pertinent documents for the project - Apply the Principles of Boundary Surveying to review and interpret deeds and plans to determine the location of boundary lines - Perform CAD functions relating to the production and development of survey plans - May perform field crew coordination and set up for all types of field surveys - Direct the activities of a survey crew when needed   Skills & Abilities  - Ability to learn the proper use of GPS equipment and Robotic Instruments and mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of geometry - Understanding of the basics of boundary, topographic, construction, and utility surveys - Able to think critically - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with survey staff and clients - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry - Ability to conduct tasks independently and review work of others Qualifications - HS Diploma (Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred) - 3-5 years of progressive professional land surveying experience, including experience with CAD and/or other drafting software - Experienced in the Principles of Boundary Survey, Topographic, Construction/Utility Surveys and electronic data collection - Thorough understanding of ALTA and boundary surveys is required - Must be detail oriented, willing to travel and work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements - Ability to transport land surveying equipment, navigate and traverse through difficult terrain, environments, and wooded areas - Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record - Must be able to lift 75lbs Please submit applications online.   This position requires COVID-19 vaccination per client requirements.
